Pokemon GO players are enjoying the April Fools’ Day event, and several are asking for its mechanics to become a permanent fixture in the game. Though Pokemon GO has celebrated April Fools’ Day as an annual thing since 2018, this year’s event is a bit unique.

Pokemon GO players logged into the game on April 1 to discover that the map was covered in Poke Balls. Tapping on a Poke Ball could yield a reward in the form of a Poke Ball, Great Ball, or Ultra Ball, or it could lead to an encounter with a wild Pokemon. While intended to be a brief event, it seems some fans want to keep it around.

Item balls in standard Pokemon games can reward the player with numerous valuable items, including Poke Balls, potions, and stat boosts. Many players seem to be in agreement that the Poke Balls on the map are a boon, and would like to see them stick around. Of course, not everyone is on board with this idea. Some fans say that regular Poke Ball spawns on the map would become tedious and boring. Others have pointed out a bug that some players are experiencing, where the Poke Balls don’t appear properly, with a large pink square appearing on the world map instead. Those players seem less optimistic that this feature would work well, given that a considerable visual bug was able to get past the developers. In general, fans seem less than optimistic that this feature will actually come to the game, but it’s ultimately up to the developer to decide whether to heed Pokemon GO fans’ requests.
