Overwatch 2 Teases Gundam Collaboration

Overwatch 2 recently made some cheeky comments on an official post about the upcoming 30th anniversary of Gundam Wing that suggests a collaboration between the mecha anime and FPS could be on its way. While far from hard confirmation, this teaser seemingly corroborates some previous leaks that suggested an Overwatch 2 x Gundam Wing collaboration may be coming in Season 16.

Though the Gundam franchise began 15 years earlier, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing was one of its most popular series, as it was the first to be broadcast on American television. The first story in the alternative After Colony timeline, Gundam Wing first aired in Japan on April 7, 1995, with its US debut taking place on March 6, 2000.

Overwatch 2 Adds April Fools’ Mode for a Limited Time

Blizzard Entertainment releases an April Fools’ limited-time mode for Overwatch 2, introducing hilarious changes and fixing a few bugs.

However, it seems like Gundam Wing might be coming to a different version of a futuristic Earth soon. Gundam recently revealed a special website to celebrate the anime’s 30th anniversary. Then, on its Twitter post sharing the link and information, Overwatch 2 congratulated Gundam on its big milestone, despite having little direct contact with Gundam in the past. While relatively innocuous on its own, subsequent comments to prying fans like “The 30th anniversary of Gundam Wing is very exciting,” “Don’t mind us,” and an eyes emoji between two bushes suggests this statement might be hinting at something more – such as an upcoming collaboration event.

This isn’t the first time players have heard about a Gundam Wing x Overwatch 2 crossover. Only a few days earlier, Overwatch 2 fan Ska’Vorah shared images allegedly leaked from Blizzard that contained a Gundam Wing logo, as well as a Genji skin reminiscent of the crimson uniform worn by Zechs Merquise.

While it is possible this could amount to nothing, these comments, combined with the leaks, heavily hint that a Gundam Wing collaboration is probably coming to Overwatch 2 in Season 16. The major update arrives on April 22, so players will likely learn if this crossover is real shortly before then, if not on April 7 for the anime’s big anniversary.

Even without a Gundam Wing crossover, Overwatch 2 Season 16 is going to be huge. Freja, a highly-mobile, bounty-hunting damage hero, is officially arriving in the update, along with the massive Stadium game mode, which adds a third person option and even more ability customization in matches than Perks do. With this and more arriving in Overwatch 2 in just a few weeks, a Gundam Wing collaboration would be icing on the cake.
