As promised, Nintendo revealed a lot about the Switch 2 during today’s Direct, including its June 5, 2025, release date. However, the Direct ended without any mention of how much the console will cost. That detail was saved until after the presentation ended when pre-order details for the Switch 2 went live.

Fans have been trying to predict where Nintendo might land on a Switch 2 price, and if you guessed $450, you’d be correct. The Switch 2’s base price will be $449.99. However, there will also be a bundle that includes the newly revealed Mario Kart World for $499.99. A pretty good deal considering how much the game is going to cost if bought separately.

Nintendo has shown off a lot of new features for the Switch 2 and confirmed its release date.

The Mario Kart World page is already live, and while you have to scroll pretty far to find it, how much the launch game is going to cost has been confirmed – $79.99. That means you’ll save $30 if you buy the MK World bundle instead. The standalone price will come as quite a shock, though. Nintendo only launched one $70 game on the original Switch, The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom, and has seemingly decided to leapfrog that and potentially set a new standard for its next generation.

While not a launch game, Nintendo closed the Direct with Donkey Kong Bonanza, which will launch on Switch 2 on July 17. That too already has its own page live on Nintendo’s website and confirms $80 will not be the new standard for first party Nintendo games. It does appear to confirm Nintendo has at least made the jump to the industry standard $70 though, as that’s how much the new DK game will cost.

An $80 price tag for Mario Kart World will be a fascinating test for Nintendo. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which was $60 at launch and, barring a very rare sale, has remained at that price for the Switch’s entire run, has gone on to become one of the best-selling games of all time. Nintendo is seemingly confident the 60 million people who own that game will be willing to pay more than they have ever paid for a Nintendo game before to play World.

Nintendo managed to cram a lot into its hour-long Direct, including the reveal of a new Kirby game, Elden Ring on Switch 2, and that GameCube games are coming to NSO. So much to tell us that it needed to save those potentially pretty controversial price reveals for afterwards.
