Every few months we are treated to a new Pokemon Trading Card Game release and with Journey Together, you get a special treat when you open your packs. Trainer’s Cards are back, with a whole set themed around some of the game’s most beloved characters.

Trainers from past games and more recent ones are all here, with characters like N, Hop, Lillie, Iono, Brock, and more getting not only their partner Pokemon featured, but with special Trainer cards as well. If you’re cracking packs and think you opened something valuable, we took a look at the most expensive cards in the set so you know when you’re opening gold.

Iono’s Bellibolt ex – 188

Hyper Rare – $30.45

Worth just over $30 is the fan-favorite Streamer/Gym Leader Iono with their iconic partner Pokemon, Bellibolt. This ex Pokemon evolves from Iono’s Tadbulb, and while it might not be the strongest card from the set, it does feature the gold styling that is the signature look of Hyper Rares.

Everything about the card is highlighted by the gold fringe of the Hyper Rare design, making sure that the value of the card stays up there thanks to both the neat artwork and the rarity of the card. For collectors, this version of Iono’s Bellibolt ex is bound to be a hot commodity.

Wailord – 162

Illustration Rare – $34.23

One of the largest Pokemon in the games in terms of sheer size, Wailord gets a very cool Illustration Rare that shows off the monstrous nature of this Water-type Pokemon. With an illustration by Katsunori Sato, you get to see the size comparison between Wailord and the single sail sloop passing by the water’s surface.

Hydro Pump, Wailord’s only attack, deals a base damage of just ten but increases by 50 points for each Water Energy attached to it. With at least four Water Energy on it, you can deal 210 damage with a single attack, which is a solid attack for a Stage 1 Pokemon.

N’s Zoroark ex – 189

Hyper Rare – $35.91

One of the coolest characters that the Pokemon games has ever introduced, the enigmatic N brings his favorite partner Pokemon with him in the card N’s Zoroark ex. This tricky card comes with the ability Trade, which lets you discard a card to draw two cards.

Being able to cycle through your hand and deck like this gives you some versatility when you have a less than optimal hand, which makes N’s Zoroark ex’s ability a huge benefit. If you’re going to be filtering through cards in your deck, you might as well pony up for a few copies of the gold-tinted Hyper Rare, even if a full playset will set you back more than $120.

Volcanion ex – 182

Special Illustration Rare – $39.08

Giving status effects to your opponent’s Pokemon is an easy and efficient way to keep the game going in your favor, and with Volcanion ex, you have a repeatable way to keep the Burned status going as well as having a flashy card to go along with it.

The Special Illustration Rare version of Volcanion ex features the legendary Pokemon stampeding across the molten lava of an active volcano, with explosions and bubbling superheated rock streaming across the surface. All this comes together to make a very cool-looking card to take over the Active Spot with.

Articuno – 161

Illustration Rare – $43.29

There is so much going on with this Illustration Rare version of Articuno from Journey Together that it’s no surprise it is beating out other, rarer cards in terms of price. From Illustrator Kuroimori comes this stunning piece, featuring the Cruel Pokemon flying past a icy scene.

Frozen plants, shards of ice, and what looks like a frozen lake stretching far into the distance. There is not much variance in color in the artwork, but that limited pallet makes it so beautiful to behold. Illustration Rare cards are more common than other rarities, so there is a solid chance that it will depreciate in value as more packs are opened, but that isn’t going to change the fact that this Articuno is stunning.

Hop’s Zacian ex – 186

Special Illustration Rare – $90.86

Special Illustration Rare cards are a unique opportunity for illustrators and players to get a chance to see the greater Pokemon world and how trainers interact with their teams. Hop’s Zacian ex shows the massive, sword-wielding legendary Pokemon meeting eyes with Hop as they travel through the woods.

Hop’s Zacian ex is also a strong Steel-type attacker, letting you strike at Pokemon on your opponent’s Bench and in the Active Spot, giving you some versatility in your attacks while you’re showing off your favorite Pokemon and Trainer duo.

Iono’s Bellibolt ex – 183

Special Illustration Rare – $101.57

Back again on the most valuable cards from Journey Together comes Iono’s Bellibolt ex, though as the Special Illustration Rare iterations this time. The odds of picking one of these cards up is very low, as Special Illustration Rare cards are among the hardest to find in packs, but it’s not impossible. It just might require hunting down lots of packs before you’re lucky enough to snag one.

With artwork from Illustrator Yuu Nishida, this card shows the two of them hanging out, possibly streaming together or at a tournament of some kind, as there’s a camera or monitor right above them.

Salamence ex – 187

A fierce card for a monstrous Pokemon, Salamence ex’s Special Illustration Rare shows off the Dragon-type Pokemon soaring over the wooded mountains beneath them, flames licking the sky as they pour out of their mouth.

This illustration comes from Tsuyoshi Nagano, who has clearly put a lot of passion into their work. If you’re looking to put together a Dragon deck, utilizing the high damage output of Salamence ex’s Bench reaching attacks but want to show you’re dedication to the Pokemon type, you’ll want to pick up a few of these.

N’s Zoroark ex – 185

Special Illustration Rare – $145.51

N has a bit of a complicated history in the Pokemon games, especially considering his special abilities to talk to Pokemon of all types and his figurehead status as the leader of Team Plasma.

That’s what makes the artwork for N’s Zoroark ex’s Special Illustration Rare so great. Thanks to the work of Megumi Mizutani, we can see the two in what appears to be the midst of a battle, or at least adventuring out in the wilds of the Unova region. Without a doubt, adding N to the card makes this Zoroark one of the most valuable cards to ever feature this Dark-type Pokemon.

Lillie’s Clefairy ex – 184

Special Illustration Rare – $231.52

It’s no surprise that Pokemon TCG collectors love cute cards, with some of the cutest cards in the game staking their claim as some of the more valuable cards in the game. With the release of Lillie’s Clefairy ex as a Special Illustration Rare, you now have another adorable card to add to your collection.

The fledgling trainer Lillie is hanging out in a field of flowers with her very happy Clefairy in this full art card from illustrator Susumu Maeya. The two might be practicing a new move together or unlocked a new level, making the determined duo the most valuable card in the set.
