You can find books while exploring, as they spawn in some chests. However, that means leaving things to chance. Making books is a much more reliable method of getting some. Here is everything you need to know about crafting them.
What’s Needed To Make A Book
There are two things you need to make a book: paper and leather.
How To Get Paper
Occasionally, you can loot paper from chests in strongholds, shipwrecks, and villages. Yet, the most reliable way to acquire paper is from sugar cane.
You can place three bits of sugar cane horizontally through the middle of your crafting grid to craft three pieces of paper.
To find some sugar cane, you need to search around water, as that is where it spawns. It is a tall, bright green plant.
If you knock off the top few blocks and leave the bottom one, it will re-grow, allowing you to get more sugar cane later. Alternatively, you can grab it all and plant some of it closer to your home base.
If you’re going to move it, you need to move it to a block next to water.
For one book, you need three pieces of paper. So if you want a lot of books, you should consider making your own sugar cane farm, which requires sugar cane and water.
How To Get Leather
Leather is another item that you can sometimes find in chests. Yet, unfortunately for the innocent animals of the overworld, the best way to get leather is by slaying them.
Not all animals drop leather, but the likes of cows, mooshrooms, horses, and llamas do. You can also combine four rabbit hides to make a piece of leather, but that will likely take longer. So, the best method is to go around and kill animals that hold leather.
How To Make A Book
Once you have three pieces of paper and one piece of leather, you need to put them together in your crafting grid. In fact, you don’t even need a crafting table. You simply need to place your leather in there with three bits of paper around it to craft your book.
