Every Xenoblade game is distinct from one another, but Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is a far cry from anything else the series has done before. From the massive open world to the literal aliens, nothing solidifies the identity of this game like Skells, the giant mechs that make exploration and combat a different affair entirely.

Learn how to upgrade your field skills in Xenoblade Chronicles X with our guide.
Skells are powerful beasts in their own right, and only get stronger when you get some powerful weapons to equip to them. But what’s even better than weapons you get from the store? Literal superweapons, that’s what. There are a great selection of superweapons for your SKell, so here’s how to unlock all of them.
What Are The Skell Superweapons?
Skells work a bit differently from your average playable character, though that’s to be expected. While on-foot combat has you equipping armour pieces and two weapons to yourself and your companions, Skells are mechs designed to pack as much weaponry as possible. So while you equip armor as well, this does not apply visually. Weapons do, however.
There are multiple of each slot, including:
- Back, typically the most powerful of your weapons, and often takes up both slots.
- Shoulder, more powerful weapons with long cooldowns.
- Arm, which are usually things like swords that deal good damage with balanced cooldowns.
- Spare, which is for more utility, low-damage but quick cooldown weapons.
- Sidearms, which are your auto-attack weapons.
Every type of weapon is restricted to each of these categories, with some taking up both slots or only able to be put in the left or right ones. When it comes to superweapons though, they exist exclusively for the back and shoulder slots, and always take up both. In fact, some superweapons even take up the back and shoulder slots simultaneously, taking up four slots for just one weapon.
Like regular Skell weapons, superweapons only provide a single Art, even when they take up multiple slots. This is a testament to their incredible power.
Each Superweapons comes in multiple fixed levels to match with Skells. These are levels 30, 50, and 60. Every superweapon is crafted from a schematic, and each schematic is unlocked differently for each level.

Superweapon Stats
In total, there are 14 Skell superweapons for you to discover. They cover almost every damage type, excluding Ether, and are almost entirely damaging Arts, with a good mix between ranged and melee arts. Healing and Aura Arts have no representation among the superweapons, so you must rely more on standard Skell weapons for these. Here is each of them and their various attributes.

All Superweapons occupy both Shoulder and Back slots when they are used, with Hexad-Partican and Dragoon-Lance both taking four slots.
Since the superweapons occupy so many slots and only appear for the Shoulder and Back slots, that means you can have a maximum of two superweapons equipped at a time. As such, don’t drop the hunt for better Skell weapons just because you have the Superweapons. Having powerful weapons in every other slot is important to offset the long cooldowns and high fuel consumption of the superweapons.
Superweapon Effects
Here’s a slightly more in-depth look at each superweapon so you can get a better idea of exactly what each does.
Unlike regular Arts, Skells do not have Secondary and Tertiary cooldowns.
