How To Complete Renewed Will In Xenobalde Chronicles X

Certain Main Missions in Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition require the completion of a specific Affinity Mission before they can be initiated. In that respect, some Affinity Missions are essentially part of the game’s sprawling sci-fi main storyline in their own right. “Renewed Will” is one such example.

Turns out not all of Xenoblade Chronicles X’s Prone are bad guys. Here’s how to save them.

Learn how to get started with “Renewed WIll”, complete your mission objectives, and return home to New Los Angeles with time to spare! In the process, you’ll get to spend a bit more time learning about Irina, a fellow BLADE operative who just so happens to be one of Xenoblade Chronicles X’s best party members.

How To Start “Renewed Will”

You’ll need to have completed Chapter 3 first before “Renewed Will” can be unlocked – which is hardly surprising, since finishing Chapter 3 is basically the barrier between the earliest content in the game and its first big batch of side missions.

There’s another catch, however: you have to be at least level 15 first. This is a bit steep for this point in the game, but hardly undoable; just keep at it with world exploration, and complete a few Support Missions at the BLADE Barracks if needed, and you’ll get there in no time.

We should note that there’s no reason you have to do “Renewed Will” prior to Chapter 4’s Main Mission, “The Ganglion Menace”. The only roadblock you’re going to encounter is for Chapter 5, as “Ma-non Maneuvers” mandates the completion of “Renewed Will”.

But “The Ganglion Menace” has a recommended level of 15, so maybe you see where we’re going here – aiming for the required level in “Renewed Will” shall ensure you are properly prepped for “The Ganglion Menace”.

Enough preamble – here’s where you need to head! Once you’ve hit level 15, travel to Central Melville Street in NLA’s Commercial District. You should see an orange Affinity Mission icon here, so click on it to commence.

Make sure Irina is not in your party before heading over there, as the cutscene which starts the Affinity Mission involves her hanging out on her day off.

Irina is being badgered by some ne’er-do-wells at the café. So few of us left, and yet humanity is still chock-full of guys like these, right?

You’re given a choice to either hang back or assist Irina, and you actually want to choose to hang back if you care about getting all the Affinity Chart’s link texts. Elma’s link to Irina will add “Precious colleague” if you do so. It’s hardly the end of the world if you prefer the other option, but it’s worth noting!

When all is said and done, add Irina to the squad, and we’re given our first of two mission objectives: take down four Matinal Evellos near the Grieving Plains in Primordia.

If you’re still in the early stages of Primordian exploration, this is northwest of NLA, roughly between Sayram Lake and Biahno Lake.

As is frequently the case with four-packs of foes, the Matinal Evellos shouldn’t cause you much concern at all. The second objective, however, might; after the dust settles, and a cutscene is shown, you have to defeat a Brume Auravis.

The Brume Auravis, whose whereabouts will be added to the map, has an annoying tendency to get out of range of melee attacks. If your player character is melee-focused, this can eat up precious time while you swap to a ranged attack strategy.

Thankfully, Irina is great for this, as her Arts can keep everyone hale and healthy while you’re (potentially) scrambling to catch up with the Brume Auravis.

A Will, Renewed

The bullies from earlier have been spared the wrath of the Brume Auravis, and Irina’s will has been suitably renewed. Not only have you met a key prerequisite for Chapter 5, but you will also earn the following rewards:

  • 160 EXP
  • 9,000 Credits
  • Smooth Recovery, a Knife Arte and one of Irina’s own Signature Arts
