Of all the changes made in Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition compared to the Wii U original, one of the most exciting additions has to be the new party members. Whether they’re new characters added to the planet Mira or existing ones made playable, earning new allies is always a treat.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition – How To Recruit Mia
Mia is one of the final party members you Xenoblade Chronicles X, and also one of the best. Here’s how to get her.
Out of all the new party members, however, the most interesting one by far has to be Ga Jiarg, former prince of the Wrothians and the major boss of Chapter Nine of the main story. This guide will detail the prerequisites to unlock Ga Jiarg’s recruitment affinity mission, as well as how to complete said mission.
Prerequisites For Ga Jiarg’s Affinity Mission
The process of unlocking Ga Jiarg’s recruitment quest isn’t too elaborate, as you only need to complete two quests before you can accept it.
Complete ‘Chapter Ten: The Zu Pharg Menace’
First and foremost, you must complete ‘Chapter Ten: The Zu Pharg Menace’ in the game’s main story. The Zu Pharg, the main boss of Chapter Ten, can be very difficult for unprepared players, due to its large size, strong attacks, and ability to summon reinforcements.
Ensuring that you have the best Skells and the best Skell equipment is important for destroying this hulking spacecraft.
Complete ‘Prospective Partners’
The other requirement to unlock Ga Jiarg’s quest is to complete the affinity mission titled ‘Prospective Partners’. To accept that affinity mission, you must have completed both Chapter Nine of the main story – where Ga Jiarg makes his appearance as the boss – and the affinity mission ‘Spy Games’.
Since the Prospective Partners affinity quest is already required to even accept the Chapter Ten story mission in the first place, once you’ve completed Chapter Ten, you should be able to start Ga Jiarg’s quest without issue.
‘A Challenger Approaches’ Quest Walkthrough
To begin Ga Jiarg’s affinity quest, titled A Challenger Approaches, head inside the B.L.A.D.E. barracks and accept the affinity mission just to the right of the barracks customization console.
For this mission, Director General Maurice Chausson comes to you asking you to deliver an alliance treaty to a Wrothian camp B.L.A.D.E. has discovered over in Oblivia, led by Prince Ga Jiarg.
Upon reaching the Wrothian Stronghold, you and your allies are stopped at the entrance by Ga Buidhe, who refuses to allow you to meet the prince unless you beat her in a duel. Similar to the fight against her and Ga Jiarg during Chapter Nine, this fight can be incredibly difficult if you don’t know what you’re doing.
Fortunately, unlike the fight against her in Chapter Nine, you can actually use Skells against her during this fight, turning it into a hilarious cakewalk.
If you would prefer to fight honorably on foot, however, we recommend building up enough TP to activate Overdrive before starting the fight against her, which you can do by fighting the nearby enemies in the area.
Once you’ve defeated Ga Buidhe, she pleads for you to take her life, before Ga Jiarg intervenes and invites the party inside to negotiate the treaty they came to deliver. When the party comes face to face with the prince, he says that he is very willing to negotiate an alliance, but that he needs something in return from humanity.
Ga Jiarg reveals that, since cutting ties with the Ganglion, many of his fellow Wrothians haven’t been able to receive medical care for the wounds they’ve suffered in battle. To that end, Ga Jiarg asks you to retrieve some Med Kits to help his people, swallowing his pride in the process.
From this point, you have two options in terms of where to get the medicine for the Wrothians.
- Option A is to raid the Ganglion base over in the Hilial Stronghold in Sylvalum. There are several strong enemies there at this point in the game, and you are unable to collect the med kits while in battle, so be prepared for a battle.
- Option B is to head to New Los Angeles and talk to Jeffrey in front of the Restricted Hangar Entrance in the Administrative district. Jeffrey has the amount of medical supplies that Ga Jiarg needs. However, he charges you 100,000 credits for you to take them off his hands.
Once you’ve obtained the five med kits through whichever method you chose, head back to the Wrothian Stronghold in Oblivia to deliver the supplies. After accepting the medicine, Ga Jiarg will thank the party and certify the alliance between humanity and the Wrothians, for as long as the Ganglion remain their mutual enemy.
This marks the end of the quest, unlocking Ga Jiarg as a party member. Ga Jiarg is a unique class based on the Galactic Knight, wielding his signature Photon Saber as well as a Raygun for his ranged option, making him an incredibly powerful party member.
Completing this affinity mission also unlocks the arms manufacturer Six Stars, which unlocks some of the best armor and weapons in the game once fully maxed out at the AM Manager Console in Armory Alley.
You also gain access to several side missions posted by the new Wrothian citizens of New Los Angeles.
