For those new to R.E.P.O., or veterans ready to jump in again, it might be worth looking at a few mistakes some players make and how to avoid them.

There are some often silly mistakes that players make in R.E.P.O. that can cost them their lives, their friends’ lives, or even the money that they need to make the quota. If players want to survive a level longer, it’s a good idea to look for these beginner mistakes to try and avoid them.

Trying to Fight Monsters Too Early

It’s Okay to Run and Hide Instead of Fighting

With 19 monsters in R.E.P.O., some players might think that the game is more like a monster hunting experience where they can go around and kill monsters to claim the valuable orbs that they drop. However, that’s not always the case, and it should only be in some rare instances that players actually fight the monsters, since these entities have a lot of health and deal lethal damage.

The majority of the most powerful monsters in R.E.P.O. can deal over 50 damage per hit, and in some instances, over 100. The Semibots are built for retrieving valuables and evading monsters through hiding spots and Tumble Launching, so while monsters can be dragged into pits with enough strength, it’s a safer idea to avoid them entirely.

Whether it’s big or small, valuables are extremely fragile. Bumping into them or letting them hit corners or surfaces too hard is almost guaranteed to break the object or, at the very least, reduce its payout. However, what’s even worse is when an ally is trying to safely transport an item back, only for you or another player to come running into them, destroying the item and enraging the teammate.

This is easily avoided, as players just need to communicate more. Try talking to allies, whether that’s with the text-to-speech function or through proximity voice chat, to make those aware that they’re carrying valuable loot, and the last thing they need is someone running around a corner to smash into them.

Using the Tumble Launch and Falling Into a Pit

The Tumble Launch (Q on the keyboard) is a vital mechanic that players have under their control in R.E.P.O., and it’s one that more players should use to both tackle into monsters, escape them, and gain decent height and speed as they throw themselves through the air. However, this is also an extremely risky method of travel.

Players are extremely vulnerable when they Tumble Launch, as hitting into a wall will see them bounce around. This can easily be the result of a player’s death as they Tumble Launch across a pit, only to end up bouncing off a surface and tumbling down to an early grave, so try to use this tackle sparingly.

Missing Out on Valuables

Valuables are the sole objective for players in R.E.P.O., and they will need an abundance of them to please the taxman, provide themselves with enough wealth to escape, and then spend their earnings in the store for upgrades. However, some players might easily miss valuables, and that’s not because they’ve gotten destroyed.

If players are exploring rooms but not checking the radar, then they aren’t going to see the green blips that appear on the map that indicate marked treasure that hasn’t been obtained yet. Even if players do not see the loot themselves, the Semibot and their radar might have picked it up, so it’s always a good idea to check the radar before leaving a room to double-check everything has been taken.

When finding an Extraction Point, players can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that they know where to send their valuables to. In some instances where there are 4 Extraction Points, it can be essential to better map what valuable goes where, especially with the more expensive objects that require multiple hands.

When locating an Extraction Point, it’s a good idea for players to place larger objects outside of it so they do not activate the process. However, it’s also worth noting that if players do not have the valuables inside the square, even just a little bit, they are going to crush the item and lose its worth, so try and plan who picks up what and where it will fit.

Leaving Friends Behind

When a friend dies to a monster or their own foolishness, it can be hilarious yet a sad thing. Nobody wants to roam the dangers of these maps alone, especially when all players are dead, it’s game over, and players need to start from the beginning. However, players do not need to leave their friends behind to save themselves.

If players pick up their allies’ heads and bring them to the Extraction Points, then they will be revived with 1 HP. Even better still, if their dead allies are taken to the truck when it’s time to escape, then they will be revived and given 25 HP. Sure, it might not be enough to survive a lethal attack, but it’s a start, and it shows that leaving an ally is never a good idea unless it’s life or death to evade monsters.
