Reze’s involvement in Denji’s existence is characterized by a distinct level of calculation. Despite the previous clear skies, Reze and Denji initially encounter one another on a surprisingly rainy day in a telephone booth, where they both seek refuge from the inclement weather. On her way to her part-time employment at a café, Reze finds comfort in the booth and expresses surprise upon discovering that another person has also sought shelter from the rain.

While it may have appeared that their initial meeting occurred by coincidence, Reze’s meticulously orchestrated plan was to establish first contact with Denji. Although this was not revealed until Chapter 40, Reze was already familiar with the Typhoon Devil. The Typhoon Devil orchestrated the unexpected onset of rainfall, using its powers to conjure a sudden rainstorm to facilitate this initial encounter.

At that time, it was also not yet recognized that Reze represented the Bomb Devil Hybrid. Consequently, all forms of water, such as those encountered during the rainstorm, would significantly compromise Reze’s abilities, as any moisture would impede her capacity to generate sufficient spark for an explosion. Reze subsequently leverages this situation to her advantage by presenting herself as a vulnerable young woman who had merely gotten caught in the rainstorm alongside Denji. Through this stratagem, Reze successfully ensnared Denji.

As the Control Devil, Makima was a societal menace for her own reasons. Although similar, Nayuta is a reflection of Makima’s desires.

Although this is enough to ensare Denji, who has always been on the hunt for female companionship, Denji has yet to fall entirely for Reze. This was because Denji had still been reeling from his high of the date he had with Makima. As Denji was prone to falling for any female who interacted with him, during their time together at the cafe, Denji realized he would soon fall for Reze. In an attempt to stay loyal to Makima, he inwardly hopes Makima would help him with his predicament.

Makima found my heart for me. My heart belongs to Makima. But my body has other ideas…

However, it is soon discovered that Reze is a kidnapped child from the Soviet Union and used as a special government experiment in which she was turned into the Bomb Hybrid.

With Reze’s real identity now revealed, this will pose as a lesson for Denji. Previously, he would trust women, only to learn that every woman he meets has been after his Chainsaw heart. Despite Denji becoming aware that every female he meets attempts to murder him, that still does not deter him from seeking their companionship.

Chainsaw Man: Pochita’s Motivation From The Depths Of Denji’s Heart

Pochita and Denji have faced numerous challenges together. Yet, their connection stays resilient as Pochita motivates Denji whenever he falters.

Although Denji also faces death at the hands of Reze, after the battle, Denji questions Reze whether she would like to run away with him. Despite learning that Reze was on a mission to obtain his heart, Denji still liked her. During the time they spent together, Reze taught Denji how to swim, and due to that, Denji believed that although Reze was sent to him on a mission, she still cared for him. Unfortunately, Reze soon meets her end at the hands of Makima, who had always been listening to their conversation through the rats in the city.

Did Reze Have Feelings For Denji?

Was It All Due to Her Training or Did Their Shared Time Mean Something?

Throughout the narrative arc, Reze demonstrates affection for Denji in various moments; however, in Chapter 51, she reveals that her training influenced her actions. Despite this, Reze genuinely cares for Denji. The first instance is when they sneak into the school at night. During this encounter, Denji shares with Reze that he has never attended school before. Although Reze has experienced a similar situation in the Soviet Union, she empathizes with Denji, understanding that the living standards in Japan are significantly better than her own background.

  • Reze is revealed to be one of the children who had been kidnapped and used for experimentation.
  • Soldiers that the Soviet Union has created are thus called “Guinea Pigs.”

With this, Reze feels a sense of closure with Denji, as both have struggled to lead fulfilling lives; they’ve essentially forged a trauma bond through their shared challenges. However, Reze remains focused on the mission she must complete. Their date at the festival marks the point where Reze’s genuine feelings begin to surface. While waiting for the fireworks show to start, she expresses concern for Denji, hoping he won’t grow up without an education at just 16 years old.

Every expression, every blush since I met you, all of it was a lie. The product of my training.

Although it may seem like Reze is merely using this concern as a tactic to isolate Denji and achieve her goal of obtaining his Chainsaw heart, it’s possible that her feelings are sincere, and her inquiry into Denji’s thoughts could determine whether she continues her mission. Unfortunately, Denji, still infatuated with Makima, chooses to stay. This rejection leads Reze to decide to proceed with her mission. She would have completed her task had Aki and Angel not interfered; however, Denji was soon revived.

As noted, Denji also asks Reze if she wants to escape with him after the battle, but she declines. Nevertheless, after visiting the train station and recalling her time with Denji, she ultimately changes her mind and returns to the café. As Reze approaches the café, she feels hopeful about seeing Denji again, revealing her affection for the Chainsaw Devil hybrid. Tragically, before she can reach Denji, who is just across the street, Makima and Angel intercept her and quickly restrain her, leaving Denji with the pain of what seems to be Reze’s rejection.
