Nintendo has announced that certain Switch 1 games will receive major enhancements on the Nintendo Switch 2, but for a price. With the Nintendo Switch 2 providing a significant power upgrade over its predecessor, it has long been assumed that older games will run better on it. As it turns out, Nintendo is releasing a line of Switch 1 games that are essentially Switch 2 ports, with physical versions available alongside upgrade packs that gamers can purchase.

Pricing information for these Switch 2 Edition upgrades has not been announced at the time of this writing, but if priced right, they may definitely be worth it for some. During the big Switch 2 Nintendo Direct, Nintendo confirmed some of the Switch 1 games that are getting upgrades on the Switch 2, as well as what exactly those upgrades entail.

Switch 2 Online Adding GameCube Games

Nintendo reveals that gamers will soon be able to play GameCube titles, thanks to their imminent addition to the Switch Online subscription service.

The first Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game showcased was Super Mario Party Jamboree, which is getting a new feature called Jamboree TV that adds new mini-games to take advantage of the new console’s unique features, including its microphone and mouse controllers. The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Super Mario Party Jamboree will launch on July 24. Then, on August 28, Switch 2 owners can look forward to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land, which will see the new story expansion Star-Crossed World added to the game.

When the Switch 2 launches on June 5, there will be at least two Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games available. Both Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom are getting Nintendo Switch 2 Editions at launch, which will include improved resolutions, frame rates, HDR support, faster load times, and compatibility with the Zelda Notes feature. Zelda Notes is a new feature coming to the Switch mobile app that will give players guidance in the games.

Finally, it was confirmed that some upcoming Switch 1 games will also get their own Switch 2 Editions, with Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A specifically called out. The games will look better and run better on the Switch 2, with Metroid Prime 4 able to hit 4K at 60fps or 1080p at 120fps.
