Persona 5: The Phantom X, at least by the sounds of things, should worry Persona fans. It started as a mobile game and remains a gacha game, two pretty big red flags among a large contingent of the gaming audience. However, after playing it at Tokyo Game Show, I found that it’s actually very good.
The game was initially released in China last year with an open beta, and a wider release was later confirmed by Atlus.

With the title still in its open beta phase, Atlus released an hour-long development update video, sharing how close the game is to completion and when the company will be revealing its release date. It also gave us our confirmation that the game will be released in the West.
Persona 5: The Phantom X Is Almost Complete And Has Undergone Major Adjustments
During its recent broadcast, Atlus shared that development on Persona 5: The Phantom X is 87.5 percent complete — an oddly specific milestone. The company shared (via Automaton Media) that development on the title has been very different from previous Persona games, with the team receiving feedback from players every step of the way.
This feedback has allowed the team to make fundamental changes to the game, including better controller support for the game’s PC version, better touchscreen controls, and changing the emphasis on “not only making it look amazing or cool at first glance, but also making it long-lasting.”
Until this point, the closest we’d come to news of a Western release of The Phantom X was a listing for the game popping up on Steam. However, this didn’t actually allude to a wider international release, and Atlus had only ever confirmed it was considering one.
After watching the livestream ourselves, we have now found explicit mention of a Western version of the game. At around 1:00:19 in the video, the developers say, “Of course, when we release the game in Japan and the West, we want players to play with the characters in their most fun state.”
While no date for a Western release has been confirmed yet, and no official announcement from Atlus, all we can do is wait. The livestream did confirm that a follow-up showcase is coming in May, though, where the company intends to announce The Phantom X’s official release date. There’s every possibility we hear about the English-language release then.
