  • There is a potential split in the D clan with rival factions, like Luffy and Blackbeard.
  • The lack of unity among the D clan in the Void Century may have led to the downfall of the Ancient Kingdom.

One Piece’s final saga has introduced fans to a ton of exciting lore reveals about the Void Century, with Vegapunk revealing the aftermath of a massive battle not that long ago. At the same time, the Elbaf arc, which is ongoing in the story right now, has introduced fans to the Harley, which in itself has revealed more lore about the world, indicating the existence of a world that existed long before the Void Century.

One Piece: Oda Hints At The Most Destructive Devil Fruit Power In The World

The most destructive devil fruit has already been revealed in One Piece. Its potential is incredible.

A common factor in all this in the One Piece world is the D clan. Fans know that the people of the D are very special and have played a significant role in shaping the history of the world. Even though they are hunted and, in many ways, hidden, the D are ever present and always bring up a storm. But, contrary to popular belief, not all D are the same and there are some who are outright evil, progressing their own goals and betraying everything for it.

The D Clan Has Both Good And Bad

  • Luffy And The Monkey D Family Are Generally Kind
  • Blackbeard Represents an Evil D

When it comes to the D family, not all of them are kind and helpful. Fans know that the protagonist of the series, Luffy is a kind-hearted individual who often cares about those around him and helps whoever is in need. His father, the Revolutionary Dragon, is leading a revolution against the World Government, and Garp has upheld his own justice to fight against several evil pirates. Yet, they only represent one side of the coin when it comes to the D.

Fans know that evil members of the D clan exist as well. Marshall D. Teach is one such character who fans know is evil to his core. Everything about him is the absolute opposite of what Luffy represents and Oda has portrayed him to be quite evil. Similarly, there is also Rocks who is, at least so far, portrayed in a negative light, but regardless of what he’s like, Teach is, at the very least, a solid confirmation of the fact that D has never been united.

The Rivalry Of The D In The Past Of One Piece

The D Might’ve Always Had Two Sides

Oda often draws parallels with the new and the old era of the One Piece world and following this logic, it is safe to assume that he could’ve done something similar with those who came before Luffy too. For instance, Roger came before Luffy and he rivaled Rocks, possibly similar to how Luffy rivals Blackbeard. Long before that, two Individuals, although none of them confirmed to be D, rivaled each other similarly. These could’ve existed in the Void Century.

One Piece: Franky Is About To Get A Major Power Up In Elbaf

Franky will be the next Straw Hat to get a power up. His power up will be massive.

Fans know that Joy Boy was alive during this era, but little is known about his D rival. Undoubtedly, Joy Boy had someone who rivaled him during the Void Century, and it is possible that these two might’ve had a split over their ideologies, similar to how Luffy and Blackbeard are polar opposites.

Why There Needs To Be Unity In The D

“The Two Will Never Meet Again” Holds Significance

In the Harley, Oda often states that “the two will never meet again,” implying some sort of division or separation. This separation could be linked directly to the clan of the D. Perhaps, just as Noland and Kalgara were separated long ago, the D rivals, one of whom was Joy Boy, were separated as well, which could’ve been why the Ancient Kingdom lost — due to a lack of unity.

Perhaps, the only way for Luffy to triumph over the Celestial Dragons is to fight together with all the others, including Blackbeard. Luffy and Blackbeard will never see eye to eye, and they will never ally, but both of them have a very important role to play in the final saga, and perhaps, only when they fight the common enemy can Imu finally be defeated.

As One Piece continues its Final Saga, fans will definitely find out more information about the traitorous D and how they split apart long ago. At the same time, Oda is bound to focus on the relationship between Luffy and Blackbeard as well.

One Piece chapter 1145 will be out very soon, later this week. As usual, One Piece is going to drop on the upcoming Sunday. In Japan, One Piece drops at 12AM JST on Monday. However, the vast majority of international readers will see the chapter available on April 6. The official release date of One Piece Chapter 1145 is April 6, 2025.
