Italian LoL community openly complains about the current issues in its competitive ecosystem
Following the recent exit of Italian esports team Macko from the League of Legends Italian Tournament (LIT), a collective named ‘Iniziativa Popolare Esportiva’ signed a public letter addressed to the game publisher Riot Games. With more than 100 members from the scene, including players, coaches, managers, casters, and staff, the collective urges for urgent intervention of the dying LoL Italian esports scene.
The central focus of the letter is the tournament organizer PG Esports, which has failed in growing the scene throughout the past years and has caused a loss of trust from its community and teams, with Macko being the latest party affected.
“The prestige of the league that ought to represent the peak of national competition has never been this low,” the letter reads, claiming that the feedback from the community has been continuously ignored, minimized, or dismissed by PG Esports.
Considering the declining state of the league, the collective has publicly asked Riot to intervene and ensure the minimum standards of quality as a ERL (European Regional League), including demands such as ‘increased investment in casters and talent development, community-driven live events, effective and consistent use of social media, and incentives to foster a balanced and engaging competitive environment’, among others.
Offering a potential solution
If conditions cannot be met, the letter demands Riot to remove PG Esports as tournament organizer starting with the 2026 competitive season and assign it to another operator, even outside of the domestic territory.
“We are aware that such a solution has been successfully implemented in Turkey, Benelux, and Poland, so we see no reason why this could not be done in Italy as well,” the letter continues. As of publication, Riot Games has not responded publicly to the letter, but the collective voice of the Italian LoL community may not go unnoticed.
