Summary

  • Beru is the first Shadow to communicate with Sung Jinwoo, showing loyalty and addressing him as his King.
  • Beru stands out among Shadows due to his ability to talk and General rank, superior in strength.
  • Sung Jinwoo’s other Shadows may level up over time, potentially tied to Jinwoo’s progress or their own experience.

In the final episode of Solo Leveling season 2, Sung Jinwoo gained a notable ally who is going to help him out in the upcoming battles. This ally was none other than Beru, the Shadow of the Ant King. Sung Jinwoo defeated the Ant King after a long battle, and afterward, he decided to use Arise.

The ability worked, and it gave rise to the Ant King’s Shadow. Up until this point, all the Shadows were mute, and they hadn’t uttered a single word. However, the Ant King’s shadow was different from the rest.

Beru Is The First Shadow That Communicated With Sung Jinwoo

Shortly after arising as a Shadow, Beru talked to Sung Jinwoo, requesting the hero to name him. Sung Jinwoo was naturally surprised after hearing Beru speak, as none of the other Shadows had communicated with him before. Beru spoke in a very subservient tone and addressed Sung Jinwoo as his king. The latter took this opportunity to question Beru and see where his loyalties laid.

Sung Jinwoo also inquired whether Beru held a grudge against the Hunter for killing him. Instead of showing disdain, the Shadow thanked the hero for awakening him. It is safe to say that even Sung Jinwoo was amazed by Beru’s loyalty towards him.

Why Beru Is Different From The Other Shadows

Featured Solo Leveling: Beru The General Level Shadow, Explained

The biggest differences between Beru and the other Shadows in Sung Jinwoo’s army are the former’s ability to talk and his rank. Beru is the only General rank Shadow in Jinwoo’s army, meaning that he is superior to the rest in terms of strength. While he was alive, Beru managed to vanquish seven Japanese S-rank Hunters and one Korean S-rank Hunter. The number would have been much higher if Sung Jinwoo had not reached the island on time and used his skill to heal the remaining Korean Hunters.

Please grant me a name. —Beru

Beru likely retained all of his physical traits from when he was alive, so it is plausible to assume that he could easily handle regular S-rank Hunters. The other Shadows in Jinwoo’s army are also extremely strong, but they would have a difficult time fighting opponents of similar caliber. Having Beru in his army means that Sung Jinwoo can just kick back and relax while the Shadow deals with an S-rank Hunter.

Beru’s Ability To Talk Is Very Underrated

Another advantage of having Beru is that he can communicate. Jinwoo had sent his Shadows with the members of the Jeju Raid party in case anything went awry. But he had no way of knowing what was happening on the island, since the Shadows could not speak. If such a situation were to occur in the future and Sung Jinwoo sent Beru with someone, the Shadow could inform the Hunter. This would help save more lives.

Sung Jinwoo’s Other Shadows Might Also Level Up

The Other Shadows Will Improve As Well

Aside from Beru, Sung Jinwoo has five main Shadows, including:

  • Igris
  • Iron
  • Tank
  • Fang
  • Kaisel

All these Shadows have proven their worth in combat numerous times, so Sung Jinwoo can rely on them whenever he’s in a pinch. Since Sung Jinwoo gets stronger after leveling up, there is also a possibility that the Shadows (at least the main ones) can also get stronger. Whether it is tied to Jinwoo or based on their own battle experience remains to be seen.

If the latter is true, then some Shadows will level up quicker than others. Their progress also depends on when Jinwoo summons them. Most of the time, Jinwoo uses Igris, which means he will have an advantage over the rest.

Solo Leveling’s third season will hopefully shed some light on this particular matter. The new season will also introduce many new characters, and they will play a crucial role in the overall story. Fans will also hope that they get to see more National Level Hunters and what kind of abilities they possess. Then there are the Shadow Monarchs, who finally seem to be on the move. Keeping all these things in mind, it is safe to say that the third season of Solo Leveling will be insanely good.
