The Epic Games Store has achieved something that some might have thought impossible considering the stranglehold Steam has on the PC gaming store scene, and that’s established a foothold for itself alongside that behemoth. Epic isn’t exactly a minor studio, of course, and with games like Fortnite and Rocket League maintaining massive heghts of popularity, when players of those games learn that the studio behind it has its own storefront, that may well be where they go when they’re on the hunt for something new to play.
Once you visit Epic’s store, you’ll discover there are almost always free games waiting to be claimed, and I’m not just talking about the usual suspects like the ones mentioned above. I’m talking about games you usually have to pay for, some of which have been heavy hitters in the past. Knights Of The Old Republic, Control, and the fantastic Guardians of the Galaxy have all been given away for free via the Epic Games Store in the past.

Free Games On The Epic Games Store Right Now
Cat Quest
If you love RPGs, cats, and free games, then you’re in luck. Cat Quest is free right now on the Epic Games Store, which means it’s currently a rare example of something that combines all three. Battle your way through the fictional kingdom of Felingard on a (cat) quest to find your sister following her abduction which kicks off the game. Not only does Cat Quest’s cartoon style perfectly lend itself to its theme, but it means, despite being eight years old, this game looks like it could have launched yesterday. Best of all, outside of it being free, there are two more games in the series waiting for you if you enjoy your time with the original.

Cat Quest
Have you ever wanted to play as RPG as a cat? Well, now you can with Cat Quest! Save your sister from the malevolent Drakoth before it’s too late, and complete lots of exciting side quests on the way. Could a game be more purrfect?

Neko Ghost, Jump!
Remember when The Plucky Squire blew everyone’s minds in 2024 via its seamless transitions between 2D and 3D gameplay? Well, Neko Ghost Jump was doing that two years earlier. Okay, maybe not quite, but Neko Ghost Jump’s gameplay is pretty cool. Severely underrated and a game I had never even heard of before it was free on Epic, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. Switch between 2D side-scroller and 3D platformer, as well as the lead character’s normal and ghost forms, to solve the game’s puzzles. Free until Thursday on the Epic Games Store, and remember, once you claim it, as is the case for all of Epic’s free games, it’s yours forever.
Upcoming Free Games On The Epic Games Store
You might have noticed a running theme in the games being given away for free by Epic right now, and if you haven’t, let me point it out for you – it’s cats. Cat Quest and Neko Ghost Jump both have cats in their lead roles, and even though the Epic Games Store’s next free game hasn’t been revealed yet, it seems likely it will also star a cat. The virtual wrapping paper that acts as a placeholder for the store’s next free game has cat faces all over it. The next free game will be available to claim at 11 am EST on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at which point the two games above will no longer be free.
