The Avengers: Doomsday cast was announced during a livestream event on Marvel Studios’ YouTube channel. Besides some unexpected actors from Fox’s X-Men movies, fans weren’t surprised by most of the names in the Avengers: Doomsday cast. Perhaps the most notable aspect of the cast announcement was those who were not part of the roster, with notable absences like Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord, and many more. Marvel Studios is reportedly holding back some Avengers: Doomsday cast announcements because not all deals with certain actors have closed—and the studio wants to save these names for a bigger reveal. A new rumor now claims one of those unnamed actors is another cast member from Fox’s original live-action X-Men movies.

Avengers: Doomsday Cast May Have Another X-Men Actor
Reputable scooper Daniel Richtman reports that X-Men actress Halle Berry is close to finalizing a deal to reprise her role as Storm in Avengers: Doomsday. If true, Berry would presumably reunite with the previously announced Avengers: Doomsday cast members Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, and Kelsey Grammer, who also reprise their respective roles from Fox’s X-Men movies (or at least variants of these characters). Berry first played Storm in Bryan Singer’s 2000 X-Men movie and reprised the role in three additional films, with her most recent appearance being 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. News of Berry closing a deal to star in Avengers: Doomsday has not been confirmed by official sources.
While actors from Fox’s X-Men movies have appeared in Marvel Studios movies before (ex. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, The Marvels, and Deadpool & Wolverine), Avengers: Doomsday seemingly marks the largest assembling of the original live-action mutants in the MCU to date. Naturally, fans are curious as to why so many X-Men characters from past non-MCU movies are included in Avengers: Doomsday. Rumors claim the Avengers: Doomsday plot will involve an incursion between the main MCU and a “divergent” X-Men Universe that leads to a showdown between Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and the mutant team, with Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom potentially pulling the strings. This would lend credence to earlier rumors that Avengers 5 was adapting the Avengers vs X-Men storyline from the comics. However, this is purely speculative, as Marvel Studios has not revealed official Avengers: Doomsday plot details and likely won’t for some time.
Assuming Avengers: Doomsday does adapt the Avengers vs X-Men storyline, Berry’s Storm would undoubtedly be a welcomed addition to the mutant team’s roster. Berry’s Storm (alter ego of Ororo Monroe) was one of the leading members of Charles Xavier’s X-Men alongside Marsden’s Cyclops and Famke Janssen’s Jean Grey, and the character is one of the most powerful and prominent mutants in the comics. So, excluding her from Avengers: Doomsday‘s X-Men lineup would have been considered an egregious error by many fans.
Of course, some fans are concerned that Avengers: Doomsday risks being overstuffed with the cast members already announced. Adding more names to the ensemble would only exacerbate those concerns. Still, with Avengers: Doomsday adding cast members even though production is already underway, some of these characters may be interchangeable with others depending on which actors finalize their deals. It therefore stands to reason that some of these characters may not have substantial roles beyond simply being there in case certain actors can’t be signed by the time cameras start rolling. This in itself is concerning, as Avengers: Doomsday reportedly still hasn’t locked the script. So, all of these exciting cast announcements won’t add up to much if Avengers: Doomsday doesn’t have a solid script and that is reflected in the final product once the film hits theaters next summer.
