Does InZOI use AI?
Sadly, the answer is yes. InZOI does use Generative AI. The developers did not try to hide this fact. Steam requires devs to disclose AI usage, and they plainly stated it on the Steam page. The disclosure reads:
“The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this: Players can generate unique textures for character outfits and various items based on text input. They can also create 3D objects from image input, which can be used as interior decorations or accessories, and add distinctive motions to their Zoi using video input. Additionally, the actions and thoughts of Zois are controlled through sLM technology, enabling more engaging and intuitive interactions.”
In short, the AI us used to create textures for items. If a player wants their clothes to look different, they can use text-based AI to influence it. They can do the same with 3D objects to decorate their homes or accessorize their Zois. AI was probably not used in the creation of the game, but it is available for players to use during their gameplay.
Generative AI is a dangerous aspect of all art. It’s beginning to seep into the mainstream a little, with recent films and games using it. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has been ripped to shreds by fans for using it, and there’s been a lot of backlash in general to the usage in any art. However, companies continue to find small ways to make use of it. They seem relatively unfazed by the criticism, which may indicate a future where games use it a whole lot more than even now.
