Summary

  • Lord Boros’ physical attributes and strength output make him a formidable opponent in One Punch Man.
  • His energy projection powers and regeneration abilities add to his unique threat level in battles.
  • Boros’ ultimate attacks, such as meteoric burst and collapsing star roaring cannon, showcase his immense power.

Lord Boros, leader of the Dark Matter Thieves and the dominator of the universe, is perhaps the most iconic villain in the One Punch Man series. Despite appearing relatively early on, his powers and abilities that make him one of the strongest characters have arguably not been topped since his (anti) climactic fight with Saitama at the end of Season 1.

His backstory in One Punch Man also eerily mirrors Saitama’s. Boros was so strong that he had no worthy opponents and became extremely bored. This thematic parallel with Saitama makes a strong case that his power is meant to be comparable to the caped baldy, a fact that Saitama confirms by calling him strong multiple times. Let’s take a look at Boros’ powers and abilities that even caused the incalculably one punch man to be impressed.

Things are not looking good for One Punch Man season 3. Animators voice their concerns.

Boros’ Physical Attributes

Even at His Base, Boros Is Incredibly Powerful

Lord Boros’ alien biology appears to be the foundational source of his powers. When conversing with Saitama, he credits his planet’s harsh environment with helping make his species incredibly strong. Although he mentions being part of a race, it’s unknown just how much stronger he is than the rest of his kin. Boros claims that his physical attributes and abilities far surpass other members of his race, and it would make sense with his backstory that no other being would be comparable. Still, it’s interesting to consider that Boros likely had to grow up, meaning some members of his own race were stronger than him at some point.

Strength Output

Boros’s punches were shown to create shockwaves when they collided with Saitama. He dispersed a cloud of smoke that covered his giant spaceship in a single punch. The dominator of the universe also packed enough power to launch Saitama all the way to the moon, though this caused him great strain.

Durability

In terms of physical durability, Boros’ has given perhaps one of the most impressive showings in the anime series so far. During the fight with Saitama, he managed to endure three different “normal punch” from Saitama as well as Saitama’s “consecutive normal punches” attack, which had thus far not failed to put down a foe. Although Boros took damage from these attacks, the fact that he was able to keep fighting afterwards is impressive. Finally, while he was ultimately defeated by a “serious punch” from Saitama, he was alive at the end of it and his weakened state may be more attributed to him releasing all his energy at once.

Speed

Lord Boros is shown to be extremely fast. During his meteoric burst attack, he momentarily surprised Saitama with his speed, though the caped baldy had nothing to fear thanks to Boros’ attacks not being able to injure him. Boros can further enhance his speed with his energy projection powers, which allow him to throw out countless attacks in the blink of an eye.

What Makes Boros a Unique Threat

Boros Stunned

In addition to His impressively strong physical prowess, Boros has access to a number of special abilities, which have led to him creating his own series of unique attacks.

“That’s the way, Saitama. You are indeed worth defeating!” -Boros

Energy Projection

One of the main sources of Boro’s special powers comes from what he describes as his massive amount of latent energy. He claims basic energy attacks from him would melt the bones of most normal organisms. Boros has precise control over his energy, able to use it to propel himself through the air and produce various energy projectiles.

As a last resort, Boros can unleash the latent energy inside him to increase his physical stats and energy firepower. His “meteoric burst” uses this energy to increase his speed and strength so that he could launch Saitama to the moon. However, this drained his stamina in order to use this attack. Lord Boros’ final attack, collapsing star roaring cannon, unleashes all of his energy at once. The true power of this attack is unknown since Saitama successfully nullified it. However, Boros stated in the anime that it had the power to send Saitama and the entire planet “to hell.”

Regeneration

Boros’ stated that his regeneration capabilities were far beyond even those of his own race. He demonstrated the ability to instantly regrow an arm at will, making it as good as new. The dark matter pirate also claimed that this regeneration ability meant that he could fight without getting tired, using this as a point against Saitama to try to convince him the caped baldy would eventually lose.

Perhaps the greatest demonstration of his regeneration abilities was when he was split into tiny pieces by Saitama’s “consecutive normal punches” attack and managed to almost instantly put his entire body back together and continue fighting. However, after he unleashed all of his energy during his ultimate attack, his regeneration stopped working and he could not recover anymore, leading to his defeat.

In the One Punch Man world, Boros’ powers and abilities make him a top contender, and the show has not seen anyone quite like him since his defeat.
