Summary
- Combat is crucial in Atomfall, requiring a mix of stealth and fighting.
- Choose weapons wisely based on your preferences and the game’s style.
- Key weapons like the Peerless SMG and MK.VI Revolver offer high damage.
While it’s by no means the primary focus of the game, combat is still an important aspect of Atomfall. Before you unlock specific skills, your stealth will be too underpowered to avoid all conflict, and at certain points you’ll just have to fight your way to safety.

10 Lingering Questions We Have After The End Of Atomfall
Atomfall left us with more questions than answers.
With a finite supply of inventory space, and a need to prioritize between one and two-handed options, there is plenty that goes into choosing what weapons are best for you in Atomfall. What you enjoy the most will depend on your taste, but there are some specific weapons that you should keep an eye out for.
8
Peerless SMG
Two-Handed
While you will come across most weapon types in Atomfall pretty quickly, it might be a while until you find an SMG. Even though this weapon type can be fun to use, it’s ammo-heavy style of fire unfortunately doesn’t suit the supply-conscious style of gameplay that Atomfall encourages.
However, if you are confident in your ability to manage ammo, then the best SMG choice is the Peerless SMG. This semi-automatic has a high damage rating, but balances this with a low range and average recoil. The low range shouldn’t matter too much, since to get the best out of an SMG in Atomfall, you shouldn’t be using it as a long-range option anyway.
7
Cricket Bat
Two-Handed
It’s always relieving to get a target out of the way before they get within close range, but sometimes a melee option is a necessity when the enemies just get too close for comfort. Melee options are also a safe bet in Atomfall, since unlike their ranged counterparts, there’s no ammo you need to worry about.
Luckily, you can get one of the best melee weapons quite early on with the Cricket Bat. This quintessentially British sporting-equipment-turned-weapon has high damage and an average attack speed. This attack speed won’t hold you back, since most enemies will recoil after one hit, giving you enough time to keep them in a loop of attacks until they’re down.
6
MK.VI Revolver Pistol
One-Handed
One of the toughest parts of managing your inventory in Atomfall is the incredibly limited space for two-handed weapons. This is why you’ll want to make sure to have a couple of one-handed weapons to hand to ensure you have some two-handed slots available as well.
There are plenty of pistol options throughout the game, but the trusty MK.VI Revolver is a safe bet for pretty much the whole runtime. Its high damage is hard to beat, and even if it has a low accuracy rating, it’s still easy to aim thanks to its sight being simple, but effective.
5
Falkirk Battle Rifle
Two-Handed
The landscapes in each of Atomfall’s maps are beautiful, but also double as a perfect way to scout out any enemies that might be in your way along your journey. To save having to deal with them at close range, you can take them out before they even know you’re there with the Falkirk Battle Rifle.

Atomfall Review: Keep Calm And Carry Guns
Atomfall brings the twee post-apocalypse to rural Britain.
This sniper rifle, as you can imagine, has a high damage and high accuracy rating, but also a high rate of fire, making it a dangerous piece of equipment you’ll want to have access to as soon as possible.
4
Eastleigh Hunting Shotgun
Two-Handed
If you prefer fighting up close and personal, but you don’t want to rely solely on melee weapons, then you’ll want to keep a shotgun on you at all times. Most of the shotguns in Atomfall are perfectly serviceable, but based on the types of situations Atomfall puts you in, the Eastleigh Hunting Shotgun feels like the most versatile.
Thanks to being a double-barrel shotgun, it gives you a lot more opportunities to deal damage to waves of enemies, and its reload time isn’t too bad either. While it’s rated as only having average damage, it’ll still take out most standard enemies with only a couple of hits.
3
Stun Stick
One-Handed
If you scroll through Atomfall’s tutorials, you’ll learn about the different elemental types of damage in the game, but once you actually start playing, you’ll quickly realize that these are usually something that your character will have to deal with, rather than something that you can turn back on enemies.

If you liked Atomfall’s alternate history and post-apocalyptic setting, you’ll love these games.
A notable exception to this is the Stun Stick, a powerful one-handed melee option that deals shock damage. While it only deals average attack damage and has a standard attack speed, the (albeit limited) shock damage more than makes up for this, being a great way to throw enemies off their guard.
2
Modified JM-3
Two-Handed
You’ll come across plenty of rifles throughout Atomfall, and it’s worth trying out as many of these as possible since plenty of them are viable options. However, once you get your hands on the Modified JM-3 you’ll probably want to keep it equipped for most of the game.
This semi-automatic assault rifle has a high damage rating, a very high rate of fire, and thanks to its handy sight, it’s also one of the most accurate weapons as well. The only warning before using this weapon is to keep an eye on your ammo since the high rate of fire makes it easy to lose control and quickly burn through your supply.
1
Mace
Two-Handed
While the Cricket Bat is an easily accessible early-game melee option, it will eventually be replaced when you finally get your first Mace. It might take a little while to get used to, since it’s slightly slower than the Cricket Bat, but the increase in damage more than makes up for it.
With a rarely seen Excellent damage rating, you’ll be able to take out most enemies with just one smack from the Mace, and that’s not something most weapons can claim. It’s guaranteed to spawn at certain druid sites in Casterfell Woods, so when you feel confident enough to reach its destination, it should be your top priority.
