Asus has just teased a new device that could be the first Xbox handheld gaming PC. The company has alluded to a potential new Asus ROG Ally handheld in a recently posted video, but a comment by the Xbox social media team, along with hints in the video itself, points to a potential Xbox tie-up.
Asus isn’t new to the handheld gaming world, successfully launching devices such as the Asus ROG Ally X, which is easily ranked among the best handheld gaming PCs that you can buy. Meanwhile, hints of an Xbox handheld have persisted for some time, although Microsoft hasn’t made any official announcement about such a device so far.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) and tagged with the hashtag #PlayALLYourGames, the global Asus ROG team shared an animated video with the ROG mascot Omni.
In the video, both an Asus ROG Ally handheld and ROG Raikiri (an officially licensed Xbox controller) are showcased. Omni is shown applying “upgrades” to itself, with terms such as marathon stamina, faster speeds, fresh look, and more capacity shown on-screen, hinting heavily at an upgraded new handheld with better specs.
Meanwhile, the official Xbox X account replied to the video with the suspicious monkey meme image. While it’s important to stress that a single reply on an X post with a meme doesn’t constitute confirmation of anything, a recent Xbox handheld rumor did suggest that an Xbox handheld gaming PC was in the pipeline, ready for launch this year.
Microsoft has so far been pretty tight-lipped about its plans for handheld devices. However, Xbox chief Phil Spencer did suggest recently that he wanted his “Lenovo Go to feel like an Xbox,” going on to suggest that there was room for improvement for the Xbox app on handhelds.
We’ll have to wait and see what Microsoft and Asus are cooking up and whether this hinted new ROG device really is the first Xbox handheld and what that might entail. Until then, check out our Asus ROG Ally X review to see why that device is one of the best Windows handhelds that you can currently buy.
