Antony Starr Is Happy The Boys Season 5 Is The End of the Show

The Boys will be returning next year for its final season. However, one of its cast members isn’t bothered and is relieved they are bidding goodbye.

The Boys is a dark, satirical superhero TV series. It is based on a book of the same name, written by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. Eric Kripke developed the show on Amazon Prime Video and the first season premiered in 2019. The Boys is one of the most successful shows on the streaming platform. It has high ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. Its fourth season has received a 92% score from critics. It also spawned multiple spinoffs, including Gen V. Despite its successful run, one of the stars is happy Season 5 will be its last.

The Boys Season 5 Scripts Still Aren’t Done (Even With Production Underway)

The Boys Season 5 is already filming, but its showrunner confirms they aren’t finished with the script yet.

Antony Starr, who plays Homelander, the leader of “The Seven” and the main antagonist in The Boys, spoke with Collider to promote his upcoming action thriller movie G20. During the chat, he was asked how he felt about The Boys Season 5 being the show’s final run. Surprisingly, he is pleased that they are ending the series. He explained:

The Boys is a major hit on Amazon Prime Video and has thousands of fans. Starr weighed in on the final season and acknowledged that it would be difficult to please everyone. However, he believed that Kripke could make it work. He teased about Season 5, saying that the scripts were “typical Boys fashion.” He added that he couldn’t even predict what would happen next. “Every time I think I know what’s going to happen, something else happens. This was no exception, these last scripts,” Starr said of The Boys Season 5. Starr’s revelation isn’t surprising at all because Kripke previously admitted they were still working on the script even if the production was already ongoing. According to the American writer and TV producer, they worked with unfinished scripts. It reportedly happened during their first season when the MeToo movement broke and they were in development mid-season. Since then, they have adjusted their approach and adopted an “organic movement of the scripts” that welcome some changes “based on what’s happening in the world.” Thus, it’s understandable why Starr can’t predict the events in the series because nothing has been finalized.

It’s kind of surprising that Starr wants to end The Boys because many love the show. If it were up to fans, they would definitely wish for more seasons. And yes, many shows were tempted to extend the story based on demand. However, it ended badly in most cases because the plot eventually felt forced until fans lost interest. So, this is probably what Starr wants to point out. They want to end the show while fans still love and support it.

Only a few popular shows didn’t give into fans’ whims of extending the story and one of them was Arcane. The animated series inspired by League of Legends debuted on Netflix in 2021 and was a hit. However, it ended after just two seasons. Even Ella Purnell, who voiced the fan-favorite and complex character, Jinx, admitted that she didn’t expect it would wrap up after two seasons. Arcane showrunner Christian Linke explained that they had a “specific story in mind,” and they wanted to stick with it. Just like Starr, he said they didn’t want to “overdo it.” Since The Boys Season 5 will be the last, fans are in for a treat because a major Supernatural reunion is happening, which is one reason one should wait for the fifth and final season.

The Boys Season 5 is expected to premiere in 2026.
