American Horror Story Season 13 Should Be Like The American Horror Stories Episode “Bestie”

Characters at school in American Horror Stories Bestie episode

American Horror Story season 13 could be inspired by American Horror Stories season 3, episode 1, called “Bestie.” The episode is about Shelby Brubaker (Emma Halleen), a teenager who is coping with her mother’s death and who becomes online friends with a character known as Bestie (Jessica Barden). What seems normal and innocent at first turns into a dangerous and violent game. American Horror Story season 13 could be a mystery about a social media influencer and focus on technology. It would be fascinating to watch a scary story about a character who lives their life online and seeks fame.

The previous American Horror Story seasons have covered haunted houses, witches, serial killers, a haunted hotel, an asylum, and the behind-the-scenes of a documentary called My Roanoke Nightmare. AHS: 1984, which was season 9, also told a solid slasher story set in the past. While there are endless possibilities with a well-crafted anthology TV series since every season can dive deep into a horror trope, American Horror Story season 13 needs to feel unique. Focusing on social media culture would be entertaining and also allow the show to cover new ground.

The American Horror Stories episode “Bestie” tells a grim story about wanting to be popular and not always knowing someone’s true self. Shelby is too loyal and trustworthy, and when she realizes that something is off with her online friend, it’s too late. American Horror Story season 13 should have an unforgettable villain like Bestie who tricks the main character into listening to them no matter what. Since the series is known for its unsettling villains, it’s hard not to have high expectations for the next one.

American Horror Story season 13 could be inspired by previous seasons while still standing on its own. Perhaps the main villain could be an influencer with a huge following who starts a cult or who is secretly a witch. They could also host a big event or retreat, which could lead to an exciting cliffhanger and huge twists and turn before the season ends. This would be a fun way to include Easter eggs and references to past seasons. The new season could be funny like Ryan Murphy’s other shows such as 9-1-1 and 9-1-1 Lone Star.

When Was American Horror Story Season 13 Renewed?

According to PEOPLE, American Horror Story was renewed for season 13 in 2020. FX shared during the TCA press tour that the Ryan Murphy horror anthology series would get an 11th, 12th, and 13th season. At that point, American Horror Story season 10, which is called Double Feature, hadn’t aired yet.

Since American Horror Story season 12, called Delicate, aired in 2023 and 2024, it might still be a while until fans get to see AHS season 13. There are a lot of exciting things about the most recent season, including the mid-season finale’s cliffhanger, which Stephen King tweeted about.

There is no release date for season 13 or any details about it. This means fans are likely in for a wait, but it will likely pay off. As Ryan Murphy explained via a 2019 Twitter interview with Entertainment Weekly, he and co-creator Brad Falchuk spent a while working on the first season. Murphy wrote:

“Brad and I have been working on it for three years. It was inspired by our favorite childhood movies. We both like to be scared.”
