If you had just one week to stay alive, what would you do to keep breathing? That’s the central thesis of Sultan’s Game, a new strategy RPG with roguelike elements that’s just launched on Steam. With an array of difficult choices, cards, and characters all at your disposal, every decision means life or death. So if you’re looking for a new experience to test your skills, look no further.
Sultan’s Game starts with a mystery box. You open the container and then have seven days to complete the challenge within, with no exceptions. One of four cards is drawn, and it might tell you to give away wealth, expand your estate, or even ensure that someone doesn’t live to see next week. It’s a card game of high stakes, with gorgeous art to bring everything to life.
You play by placing cards on the board, with each deciding how you’ll spend your time during the day. These cards can help you allocate allies, resources, and complete the ominous objective hanging over your head. The Sultan’s demands have a high cost, but that doesn’t mean you can’t use what you have to eliminate enemies, do the unthinkable, or even pursue a secretive romance. People, decisions, and consequences, that’s what Sultan’s Game is all about.

Now, if you thought you could just complete the task on this week’s card with minimal effort, think again. The card bears a tier – ranging from stone to gold – which decides how impressive your target needs to be. Higher risk means higher reward, though, so if you’ve got to eliminate a high-ranking official, you’d best believe it’s worth it.
That’s not all, however, because Sultan’s Game even has some roguelike elements. After each week you earn points to enhance your resources for the next round, unlock more allies and equipment, or refine your play style. As you grow you’ll approach the end of this twisted game, and maybe you’ll become a trusted minister, overthrow the Sultan, or even summon dark gods to bring about complete destruction. Again, the choice is yours.
Sultan’s Game is out now on Steam with an introductory offer knocking 10% off the asking price, so you can expect to pay $22.49 / £18.89. Just head here.
