Will Sung Suho Become A Monarch?

Solo Leveling Ragnarok Chapter 46 Has Been Delayed

WARNING: This post contains SPOILERS for Solo Leveling and Solo Leveling Ragnarok Manhwa series.

Summary

  • Sung Suho will not become the next Shadow Monarch like his father, Jinwoo.
  • Instead, he will inherit the powers of Antares and become the Monarch of Destruction.
  • With training from Antares through the System, Suho aims to equal or surpass his father’s strength.

Jinwoo is alive and well in Solo Leveling Ragnarok and is going against the powerful godly entities, Itarim. However, the sequel series isn’t about Jinwoo; it’s about his son, Sung Suho. The young boy had to spend several of his childhood years without his parents, but one day, he was reminded of the truth about his father by Beru, the Ant King.

Since that day, Sung Suho has been training under Beru’s guidance to become as powerful as his father. While Suho has been getting stronger with each fight, he can’t really stand shoulder to shoulder with his father in terms of strength, not until he becomes a Monarch. So, this begs an interesting question — Will Sung Suho become a Monarch like his father, Jinwoo?

As Solo Leveling Progresses, Jin-Woo continues to get stronger. But despite his strength, how was he able to defeat a Monarch so easily?

Sung Suho Inherited Some Powers From Jinwoo In Solo Leveling Ragnarok

But That Doesn’t Mean He Is The Next Shadow Monarch

Sung Suho was born after Jinwoo became the new Shadow Monarch after Ashborn. It was natural for the boy to inherit some powers from his father, and that’s exactly what happened. Jinwoo wanted Suho to lead a normal life, so he suppressed the boy’s powers when the boy was little. However, after being attacked by some Apostles, Suho awakens his powers. On the same day, Beru arrives on Earth and tells Suho the truth about his father.

While Jinwoo has been fighting the Itarim race in outer space, Beru has been training Suho through the System. Before Jinwoo became the Shadow Monarch, he earned some incredibly useful and powerful abilities through the System, so it’s obvious that Suho will level up in a similar manner. Also, being the son of the Shadow Monarch, Suho inherited powers and skills like Ruler’s Authority, Detoxification, Monarch’s Domain, Shadow Exchange, Shadow Extraction, etc. These are the same abilities that Jinwoo uses against his enemies as Shadow Monarch, so it’s normal to wonder if Suho will someday inherit the full powers of Shadow Monarch. Well, things aren’t that simple.

My mother used to always tell me that I was becoming like my father quite well…so how would he have escaped this feeling of helplessness…?? – Sung Suho.

Even though Suho has the same skills as his father, that doesn’t mean he is the next Shadow Monarch. For Suho to become the next Shadow Monarch, Jinwoo will have to let go of these powers, which seems highly unlikely. Jinwoo has achieved true immortality after becoming the Shadow Monarch; he doesn’t age and can’t really be killed. So, even though Ragnarok is Suho’s story, Jinwoo isn’t going anywhere. Of course, Jinwoo can surely give the powers of Shadow Monarch to Suho, but he won’t do that.

Itarim is too big a threat to be tackled by Jinwoo alone, which is exactly why he sends Beru to help his son become stronger. Jinwoo wants Suho by his side to defeat Itarim while also protecting the Earth from constant attacks. So, it wouldn’t make sense for Jinwoo to disappear from the story like Ashborn and make his son fight the Itarim alone by passing down the powers of Shadow Monarch to the boy. However, Jinwoo does have an interesting plan to help his son become a Monarch.

Sung Suho Will Inherit The Powers Of Another Monarch

Suho Becoming The Monarch Of Destruction Makes Much More Sense

Jinwoo is already the strongest being in the Solo Leveling universe. If Sung Suho inherits the powers of Shadow Monarch, he would just become a copy-paste version of his father. That doesn’t sound like a good way to set up Suho’s story in the sequel series. So, Suho becoming the Shadow Monarch is out of the question. That being said, it’s still Suho’s story, and why exactly is the fandom supposed to take the boy seriously if he doesn’t become as strong as his father? He certainly can’t match Jinwoo’s might without becoming a Monarch, so that has to happen one way or another. The good thing is that the Shadow Monarch wasn’t the only Monarch in the Solo Leveling universe.

Antares was the second-strongest Monarch in the series after Ashborn. The Monarch of Destruction held the power to destroy an entire planet, and he could have defeated the Rulers if not for Ashborn. So, it’s understandable why the writers of Ragnarok decided to set up Suho as the next Monarch of Destruction. When Suho gets the powers of Antares in addition to the powers he already inherited from Jinwoo, the boy might actually surpass his father. If that sounds like a stretch, then Suho might at least become as strong as Jinwoo. Jinwoo staying the Shadow Monarch and Suho becoming the Monarch of Destruction is the best way to keep both characters relevant in the Solo Leveling lore.

Solo Leveling: The Controversial Change In Jinwoo Vs. Ant King Fight Explained

Solo Leveling anime took a slightly different approach to Jinwoo and the Ant King’s fight than the Manhwa!

Interestingly, Suho is already training to become the next Monarch of Destruction in the web novel. Apparently, Suho met Antares in the Realm of Death, a place where Monarchs go for eternal rest. At the same time, Jinwoo makes a deal with Antares and promises to bring him back to life if he trains Suho to become the next Shadow Monarch.

Jinwoo completes his part of the deal, with a little twist, of course. He brings Antares back in Ragna’s body (Kamish’s child), but Antares can maintain control over Ragna’s body if the dragon baby has enough mana. Antares was clearly tricked by Jinwoo, but despite that, Antares has been training Suho to become the next Monarch of Destruction through the System. Now, all we can do is just wait for Suho to finish his training and stand tall with the Shadow Monarch against the Itarim race.
