One of the biggest changes that the story gave to the fans was a new Hokage. At the beginning of Two Blue Vortex, fans were told that Shikamaru Nara, the man who once stood as Naruto’s top advisor, was now the 8th Hokage.

While some understood the decision, others felt Shikamaru didn’t have what it takes to be a true Hokage. Regardless, it was revealed soon after that Shikamaru’s position as the Hokage of the village wasn’t entirely set in stone. Shikamaru might’ve been the Hokage, but he never accepted the position formally. As pointed out by the village elders, Shikamaru kept on delaying the inevitable and for those reasons, he is the provisional Hokage still, even though it’s been three years since he took charge.
If Ikemoto truly wanted Shikamaru to be the 8th Hokage, then he wouldn’t have made him the provisional Hokage in the first place. If there’s one thing that fans can say for sure, it is that Shikamaru will not have his face engraved alongside the other Hokage faces, and that he won’t get to claim this position officially.
How Sasuke Uchiha Could Become The 8th Hokage
Sasuke’s Return From The Clutches Of The Shinju Is Imminent
Under normal circumstances, the only one fit to be the Hokage of the village when Naruto isn’t around would be Sasuke Uchiha. But, the end of Boruro part 1 made this very difficult. This is simply because Boruto Uzumaki escaped thanks to Sasuke, and because of his daughter, he took responsibility for him, leaving the village with him to train well. If this wasn’t the case, Sasuke would’ve been the Hokage of the village right now.

Regardless, Sasuke was soon turned into a tree by the Claw Grimes, and his powers were used to create Hidari, one of the most powerful Shinju that fans have seen in the story so far. While Sasuke is incapacitated right now, that’s not always going to be the case. Fans know that the defeat of the Shinju is just around the corner now.

Sasuke Uchiha will definitely return in the future of the Boruto series, and when that happens, fans will most likely see him speak to Konoha. Around this time, the truth about the Omnipotence could be out in the open already, but even if it isn’t, Sasuke speaking to the village could very well lead to his return. If the village still needs a leader, then there is nobody better to lead them than Sasuke Uchiha. Having had a dream of Hokage once, Sasuke could finally get to live it out, and fans know that this change would be phenomenal for the story. Sasuke could become Konoha’s 8th Hokage officially, and in doing so, the first Uchiha Hokage in history.
