Of course, Mia has to be an oddity. From when you first meet her back in NLA to a full-fledged adventurer, she doesn’t make it easy to add her as a companion. The wait is worth it though, as she is also one of the strongest members of the whole party in the game.

How To Recruit Mia

Looking for Mia's comm device in xenoblade chronicles x definitive edition.

For the vast majority of party members in the game, you unlock them either by progressing through the story, or by completing their Affinity Missions, which are typically marked on the map and found in NLA. Mia instead requires completing a whole host of Normal Missions (those are the green ones) which span across the length of the entire game.

There are five missions in total you must complete before unlocking Mia as a companion. Here is each of them and when they unlock:

  • Mamma Mia! – Complete Chapter Three.
  • Adventure! – Complete Chapter Five.
  • Mighty Mia – Complete Chapter Six.
  • It’s-a Mia! – Complete Chapter Nine, and the A Girl’s Wings Affinity Mission.
  • Mia Is Missing! – Complete Chapter 11, the Definian Downfall Normal Mission, and have a 65% survey rate for Cauldros.

As you might expect, each previous Mia mission must be completed before the successive one becomes available.

After you finally complete all of these missions, Mia will join your party. She also has an Affinity Mission of her own, though this only become available after she has already joined your party.

Completing Each Of Mia’s Quests

None of Mia’s individual missions are too complicated, it’s more the act of finding them that is difficult. Here is each of them, and where they’re located.

Mamma Mia!

This one is found in NLA, not far from the elevator that leads to the Outfitters Test Hangar beneath the Administrative District. Chat with Mia to learn that she is desperately yearning for adventure, and enlists your help in getting her beyond the walls.

To complete this mission, all you have to do is buy her some Iron Blades and Combat Bodywear from the nearby store in Armory Alley. Make sure it’s the exact ones she asked for, and she won’t accept anything else. With her new weapons in hand, she sets off on a brand new adventure.

Adventure!

This mission is found in Noctilum near the top of the canopy of the Skybound Coil Tree. She lost her comm device, and needs your help to find. It’s not located far from here, and can be found easily by checking the map. It is guarded by a level 41 Tyrant, but you can walk right under them if you do so slowly. You could also use Shadowrunner for a bit more safety.

After bring back her comm device, she finds herself in another spot of danger, getting trapped atop a Wood Tectinsula. Defeat this dangerous indigen for Mia’s profuse thanks and not a single reward. To Oblivia she heads next.

Mighty Mia

Next, Mia finds herself atop the massive Leaning Ring of Oblivia. This time she is being harassed by a Falconine Jacul and can’t escape, and you again come to her resucue.

After dispatching the winged beast, she again thanks you, and makes a quick escape before you can ask for a reward. Surely she’ll have that reward next time.

It’s-a Mia!

Mia has finally got her hands on her very own Skell, what she was looking for when she first wanted to leave NLA. And of course, she’s managed to break it. You must gather up two New Cylinders, which you can get from Guardian Pugiliths in Sylvalum, and five pieces of Missile Wiring, which can be easily located on the map.

With these returned and her Skell repaired, you are suddenly attacked by a pair of Buoyant Pugiliths. Defeat these monstrous machines for even more thanks from Mia. While she is rich in gratitude, she is a pauper when it comes to a monetary reward. And off to Cauldros she flies.

Mia Is Missing

Somehow, Mia has managed to get herself captured by the Ganglion, and is trapped inside the Ganglion Antropolis in Cauldros. After you find the area in which Mia is locked away, she’ll ask you to defeat her jailer and retrieve the key.

Deeper within the Antropolis you will find a Definian enemy, and defeating them will give you the key to Mia’s cell. Head on back to NLA with Mia to finally get the reward she promised you all that time ago – her presence in your party. It’s not money, but it’s something for all that effort. She also gives you the FILE-USP0880SA, used to make one of the Skell Superweapons. So that’s something extra for all the work.

Mia As A Companion

Once you finally have Mia added to your party, you will have had a good chunk of the game completed, so it’s good then that she has so many helpful abilities to make her useful in the later content of the game. She comes as a typical Psycorruptor, with two unique Signature Arts for the Raygun. These are:

  • Clarity Ray – Removes debuffs and grants Ether Resistance up to nearby allies.
  • Beam Bomber – Targets enemies ahead, with extra damage when used with an Aura.

Mia is a great companion for all the debuffs she can dish out to enemies, but also for the buffs she can provide to the party. She’s no slouch when it comes to dishing out damage either, though support is where she excels. Many of her skills, such as Extra Armor, make her even more sturdy for those tougher battles. She’s all around dependable, ironically enough.
