Warzone Players Complete Area 99 Easter Egg

Summary

  • Call of Duty: Warzone players have finally completed the Area 99 easter egg.
  • The easter egg went undiscovered for over four months.
  • Area 99 will be removed from Call of Duty: Warzone with the launch of Season 3 on April 3.

With only days left to go until Area 99 is removed from Call of Duty: Warzone, a group of players have completed an easter egg that had gone undiscovered for over four months. Publisher Activision recently pulled back the curtain on Call of Duty: Warzone Season 3, while also hinting at the undiscovered easter egg for the game’s small-scale Resurgence map. Not long after, a group of players solved the mystery and showed the rest of the community how to complete the Area 99 easter egg.

Season 3 is shaping up to be Call of Duty: Warzone‘s biggest content update yet, featuring the return of Verdansk, some iconic Modern Warfare weapons, numerous quality-of-life improvements, and much more. Unfortunately, with so many changes and new content on the way, Activision has revealed some lengthy server downtime for Call of Duty: Warzone. While Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 players will be able to jump into the new season on April 2, Warzone players will be left in the dark as the game’s servers are set to be offline for 24 hours in preparation for Verdansk’s return. This means the game will be unplayable from April 2 until April 3.

Before the launch of Season 03, the Call of Duty development team posts an update about how shadow bans and spam reporting are handled.

In a recent blog post for Call of Duty Season 3, Activision confirmed that both Urzikstan and Area 99 will be “going on hiatus for a limited time” due to the return of Verdansk. The latter of the two debuted back in November, but it was recently revealed that an easter egg on the map was still undiscovered. But just hours after the revelation, Twitch streamer Dawg130 and friends completed the easter egg and nuked the map…kind of. The group discovered that the easter egg can be completed by shooting off some mannequin heads, looting two keycards, and then setting off some nukes on the outskirts of the map. While the nukes don’t end the game, it does make for a pretty cool visual spectacle.

How To Complete Warzone Area 99 Easter Egg

  • Shoot the heads of all clothed mannequins at the Mannequin Assembly POI
  • Loot two key cards from the bodies at the Reactor POI (requires two players)
  • Interact with the terminal inside the Bunker POI to launch the nukes (requires two players)

Call of Duty fans may be saying goodbye to Area 99 in just a few days’ time, but it’s for a good cause. On April 3, when Season 3 officially launches, Verdansk will be making its triumphant return with 150 player lobbies. The map has been rebuilt from the ground up by developer Beenox Studios, and while it remains faithful to the original map that was first released in 2020, Verdansk now has plenty of big upgrades. Alongside new visual improvements, Beenox has made some minor adjustments to open areas of the map, adding more cover for players to make use of when rotating between locations.

Alongside Verdansk’s return, Warzone Season 3 will also see some iconic Modern Warfare weapons make their comeback. The HDR Sniper Rifle, CR-56 AMAX, Kilo 141, and Grau 5.56 will all be returning with the new season and will also be available to use in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. While most of these weapons will be obtainable via the Season 3 Battle Pass, the Kilo 141 can be obtained for free simply by logging in to Call of Duty: Warzone during its 24-hour server downtime. It’s also worth noting that the Grau 5.56 will not have its own dedicated weapon and will be available as a conversion kit for the Swat 5.56.
