“The Twisted Tree” is a side quest that you will encounter fairly early in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Spread throughout the city of Kyoto, the targets in this mission are all part of the vile Takahashi family. However, unlike many of the ‘criminal organization’ quests in the game, fully investigating each target reveals that not all of them deserve the hidden blade. Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide their ultimate fate. In this guide, we’ll show you where to find each member of the Takahashi family in AC Shadows, and the rewards you’ll get for completing “The Twisted Tree.”

How to Start The Twisted Tree:

Technically, “The Twisted Tree” is given by Ujimasa during the “Inside Help” main quest. He requires you to get rid of the Takahashi family before helping you with The Fool. However, you do not actually need to talk to Ujimasa to begin “The Twisted Tree,” as the targets will be in the world either way. This quest has some great early-game rewards, so it’s worth completing as soon as you can.

The Takahashi family are all found in various parts of Kyoto, Yamashiro – so you don’t actually have to go too far to get them all.

Wait until after defeating Inoshichi to go after Ichi-Hime. She and Goro are the two Takahashi children that should be spared. However, you must kill Inoshichi Takahashi before visiting Ichi-Hime, as she believes she’ll never be free until he is gone. Make sure to approach her and Goro without your weapons drawn, and make sure you are not Wanted in Yamashiro.

Shiro Takahashi

NIjo Palace, Kyoto – we found Shiro, and initiated the “Twisted Tree” quest, by finding a letter outside the palace grounds, near a smashed cart on the western walkway. There is a guard standing next to the cart that also carries a letter that offers intel. Kill them, and pick the letter off the ground. Shiro is inside the temple grounds, on a platform in front of the main castle entrance.

Goro Takahashi

Shokokuji Temple, Kyoto – Goro can be found at the northeast end of Shokokuji Temple, standing guard in front of an abandoned building. If you approach him slowly, with weapon sheathed, you’ll be prompted to either kill or spare him. The general feeling is that sparing him is the better outcome. Make sure to collect the nearby letter. Head south from Goro’s location and use Observation to find it.

Inoshichi Takahashi

Western Kyoto, Yamashiro – The patriarch of the Takahashi family is located directly west of Honnoji Temple. If you go to Inoshichi directly after Goro, you will draw out Jiro, Taro, and Saburo at the same time. Use Yasuke to make the fight much easier.

Ichi-hime Takahashi

Uemenomiya Taisha Shrine, Yamashiro – Once you’ve taken care of the rest of the family, you can visit Ichi-hime at her location near the Kyoto Painting School in west Kyoto. As long as you’ve killed her father, and spared Goro, you’ll be able to spare her – and you should.
