The Boys Creator Eric Kripke Gives Exciting Update About Gen V

Unsurpisingly, Prime Video‘s The Boys franchise has a pretty rabid fanbase that has been waiting for updates about a specific project from series mastermind Eric Kripke. The former Supernatural showrunner is no fool, and he’s finally providing some much-appreciated news to the fandom at large.

After debuting in July 2019, The Boys has arguably become Prime Video’s biggest success. The fifth and final season of the original series is set to air in 2026, its characters have been included in popular video game franchises like Call of Duty and Mortal Kombat, and the franchise itself continues to expand with no signs of slowing down anytime soon. The franchise’s first spinoff—The Boys Presents: Diabolical—debuted in 2022, another spinoff titled The Boys: Mexico has been announced, and a prequel series titled Vought Rising is officially in production as well. The show’s second and most successful spinoff series, Gen V, was renewed for a second season back in October 2023, but Kripke and company have been somewhat radio silent about the project in recent months. This is no longer the case.

‘It’s F***ing Terrifying’ Supernatural Star Teases Reunion On The Boys

There is a Supernatural reunion coming on the newest season of Amazon’s The Boys and one of the stars of the classic CW show seems a bit anxious.

Eric Kripke, The Boys‘ creative force and mastermind, took to X early on Saturday morning to give fans a quick update on the status of Gen V‘s second season. The showrunner claimed that the episodes are “done editing” and that the creative team had moved on to “doing music, sound, and VFX now.” He continued on, claiming a “trailer drop & date announcement” would be coming in the near future. Finally, he teased fans a bit, stating he feels the show’s second season is better than the first and that it “will be worth the wait.”

Are You Ready To Go Back To School With The Boys And Gen V?

The eight-episode first season of Gen V took fans inside the classrooms of the Godolkin University School of Crimefighting. The goal young adult superheroes work toward by attending this school? Joining the beloved Vought International superhero group The Seven, of course. Gen V carried on the grand tradition of The Boys in having somewhat ridiculous superheroes like Little Cricket (a hero who can change her size by purging/eating) and The Incredible Steve (a student who can reattach severed body parts).

The show, like its predecessor, managed to find the sweet spot in lampooning superhero media while remaining relevant to it as well. The reason The Boys universe works so well is that the creative teams behind the shows are willing to satirize superheroics while telling engaging, emotional stories at the same time.

It is a fine line to walk, but The Boys and Gen V both do it deftly. And, if Kripke isn’t pulling the fandom’s collective leg, we won’t have to wait all that much longer for a return to the wild universe of Vought International.

Both The Boys and Gen V are currently available to stream on Prime Video.
