A Red Dead Redemption 2 fan shared their surprise at spotting a deer in an odd place in the game. Red Dead Redemption 2 is full of surprises, but some of them aren’t necessarily intentional on the part of the game’s developers.
Red Dead Redemption 2, like many open world games, has its share of odd moments and glitches related to the game’s large scope. Fellow Rockstar Games title Grand Theft Auto 5 is no stranger to them, nor are games from other studios, like Bethesda’s Fallout 4 or Projekt CD Red’s Cyberpunk 2077. These open worlds require a lot of processing power, and often spawn in entities just out of the player’s sight in order to create the illusion of a seamless, living world. This may be what led to this particular oddity in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Players Find Rare Bloodhound Interaction
One Red Dead Redemption 2 player takes to social media to share a rare interaction they had with a Bloodhound, sparking conversations among players.
Red Dead Redemption 2 player and Reddit user weed-beans shared their confusion at discovering a deer randomly standing on top of a house. There were no access points that the deer could have readily followed up there, making matters even more confusing. However, it didn’t take long for other players to start voicing similar experiences, pointing to this house and other buildings that they’ve spotted deer standing on. This particular building is reportedly south of the trapper in Tall Trees for players who might like to see if the deer is there in their own game.
How Did a Deer Get on a Roof in Red Dead Redemption 2?
In some cases, it wouldn’t be out of the question for a deer to climb up to the roof, or for it to experience a short fall from an overhanging cliff side, leading to them ending up on a roof. However, in this particular case, the deer likely spawned up there. Videos and other images on the internet show Red Dead Redemption 2‘s deer pacing back and forth on roofs, seemingly unable to figure out how to get down once they’re up there. Red Dead Redemption 2‘s animals sometimes spawn in midair, and then drop onto the surface below. If a deer pops into existence in the wrong spot, though, it can end up on an elevated surface like this.
Deer aren’t the only animals to spontaneously appear on roofs, nor is the phenomenon limited to Red Dead Redemption 2. The horse Roach has a reputation for appearing on roofs in The Witcher 3, due to the way the game tries to spawn the horse when a player calls for it. Fallout 4‘s players, meanwhile, have spotted Brahmin standing on rooftops. While some might find these instances to spoil realism in a game, most seem to just be amused by it.
