Though these characters weren’t fond of the young knucklehead ninja to begin with, they came to respect Naruto over the course of the story.
Needless to say, the Naruto franchise never shies away from showcasing ruthless violence and devastating attacks in its numerous fight scenes, and as a result, both parts of its story have featured violent encounters that left a huge mark on the audience. Naruto fans have witnessed numerous brutal fights throughout the series, and the following are the best examples of this unusual but effective practice.

Jiraiya Vs. Pain
A Serious Clash Between A Master And His Student That Ended In A Tragic Death
- Arc: Tale of Jiraiya the Gallant
Every Naruto fan is aware that the climactic clash between Jiraiya and Pain is actually one of the most epic yet heartbreaking moments in the entire series, but it’s important to point out how incredibly ruthless and violent their encounter actually was. After all, these are two incredibly strong shinobi who utilized their most powerful techniques to their fullest potential and managed to deal some major damage to each other.
Not to mention that, since his Six Paths allow him to possess multiple bodies at the same time, Jiraiya had to kill some of Pain’s bodies. But, of course, what makes this fight especially brutal is its conclusion, where Pain manages to stab his former master to death and deals a devastating fatal blow while Jiraiya was carving a secret message on the back of Fukasaku.

Rock Lee And Gaara Vs. Kimimaro
Involves One Of The Goriest Abilities In The Series
- Arc: Sasuke Recovery Mission
When he participated in the mission to bring back Sasuke, Rock Lee had to face Kimimaro, the leader of the Sound Five and their strongest member. His signature kekkei genkai, Shikotsumyaku, greatly contributes to the brutality and violence of their encounter, as it allowed Kimimaro to extract bones from his own body and manipulate them, and it looks even more brutal in the manga.
While Rock Lee stars in a few comedic moments (like the scene in which he uses Drunken Fist), this is still a violent battle with a distinctive body horror element. And it gets even worse when Gaara gets involved, since he was able to counter and break the enemy’s bones with his sand-based abilities. To top it all off, the fight concluded abruptly when Kimimaro succumbed to his illness and literally died standing in front of Rock Lee and Gaara.

Might Guy Vs. Madara Uchiha
An Incredible Showing Of Raw Strength And Great Martial Arts Skills
- Arc: Birth of the Ten-Tails’ Jinchuriki
While the final arcs of Naruto are quite flawed, they do contain some remarkable moments within them, and the legendary battle between Might Guy and Madara Uchiha is obviously one of them. On the one hand, Madara had recently become the jinchuriki of the Ten-Tailed Beast, which granted him incredible power. But, on the other hand, Might Guy is one of the strongest taijutsu masters in the entire world.

He was downright relentless and almost didn’t give Madara time to breathe as he kept breaking the bones of the new Ten-Tailed Jinchuriki. Sadly, this wasn’t enough to defeat him, and Guy eventually lost both the encounter and one of his legs.

Naruto Uzumaki Vs. Pain
An Epic Battle Between Two Powerful Opponents
The moment Naruto Uzumaki suddenly arrived in Konohagakure to put an end to Pain’s violent assault will always be remembered as one of the most exciting scenes in the entire series. But some fans may have already forgotten that it also led directly to one of the most intense, violent, and ruthless fights in the franchise.
Both of them used some truly amazing abilities in order to deal major damage to each other, especially when considering that Naruto successfully eliminated many of Pain’s bodies. Other brutal moments of their fight include Pain impaling Naruto just like he did with Jiraiya, Pain critically wounding Hinata just to torture his opponent, and Naruto unleashing his Eight-Tailed transformation in one of the most shocking and goriest action sequences of the series.

Sasuke Uchiha Vs. Danzo Shimura
A Ferocious Battle Against A Cruel Villain
After finding out the truth about his brother Itachi, Sasuke Uchiha had one goal in mind: to avenge him by killing the temporary Hokage, Danzo Shimura, seeing as he had been directly responsible for the assassination of the entire Uchiha Clan. But, of course, this wasn’t going to be easy, as this antagonist was able to use multiple tricky techniques that Sasuke had to strategically overcome one by one.
What made their battle especially shocking was the reveal that Danzo had modified his own body with Hashirama Senju’s cells in order to implant ten Uchiha eyes in his arm. If that wasn’t already cruel enough, it also allowed him to use a forbidden technique known as Izanagi, which can nullify any damage done to him in an instant. Because of this, Sasuke was practically forced to kill Danzo multiple times, not to mention that he was eventually able to deal a finishing blow by impaling his own ally, Karin, through her chest after his opponent attempted to take her hostage.

Naruto Uzumaki Vs. Sasuke Uchiha
The Final Battle Of The Series Was Nothing Short Of Brutal
- Arc: Kaguya Otsutsuki Strikes
At the very end of the series, Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha confronted each other again in an intense final battle that was finally going to decide which one of these rivals was strongest. Because of this, neither of them held back, utilizinh their most powerful techniques, including the abilities they had recently gotten from the Sage of Six Paths during their previous battle against Kaguya Otsutsuki.
From raw hand-to-hand combat to explosive attacks and even some incredible transformations, this battle is a cinematic spectacle of unbelievable techniques, and most audiences can feel every single violent hit in it. This not only resulted in the destruction of the Valley of the End, but also in both Naruto and Sasuke almost dying and losing one of their arms. Despite all the issues with Naruto’s ending, this was definitely a worthwhile battle to conclude the story with while also reminding fans of how brutal the series could be.
1
Obito Uchiha Vs. Kirigakure Ninja
A Bloody Massacre That Resulted In The Birth Of A Ruthless Villain
- Arc: Fourth Shinobi World War: Climax
Obito Uchiha loved Rin Nohara more than anybody else in the world, and, curiously enough, this sentiment is exactly what led to one of the most violent scenes in the series. As fans saw in his emotional flashback, he quickly went to rescue her from an attack by ninjas from Kirigakure, only to witness his good friend Kakashi mortally impaling her through the chest. In reality, Kakashi had to kill Rin because she had been forcefully turned into the Four-Tails’ Jinchuriki by their enemies, but Obito had no idea that had happened.
As a result of the immense despair he was feeling, Obito unlocked his Mangekyo Sharingan, which he used alongside the Wood Release technique granted to him by Madara to lash out at the remaining Kirigakure ninja and slaughter them all one by one. This is a surprisingly dark and violent sequence even for Naruto, and it’s the decisive moment in which Obito decided to become an antagonist in order to take revenge on the world for killing his beloved Rin.
