Summary
- Blackbeard is one of the strongest fighters in One Piece with a crafty nature.
- Defeating Blackbeard may require help from many allies, similar to the fight against Kaido.
- Luffy may defeat Blackbeard by exploiting Devil Fruit weaknesses or in direct combat, proving himself as the true Pirate King.
When it comes to One Piece, one of the biggest events the series is gearing up for is the final fight between Luffy and Blackbeard. For many, this battle will be one of the largest-scale fights the series has to offer, pitting every Straw Hat against every Blackbeard Pirate, making for a clash that is nearly 30 years in the making. No matter what happens in the battle specifically, it’s likely that the fight between the Straw Hats and Blackbeard will be one of the most hype moments in the series.
However, with Blackbeard growing in power at a similar rate to Luffy throughout the series, One Piece fans are curious about how Luffy and his crew will manage to take the Emperor of the Sea down. With both the Dark-Dark Fruit and Quake-Quake Fruit, Blackbeard seems to have a nearly unstoppable combination of Devil Fruits. Even with Gear 5, defeating Blackbeard may take a lot more help than fans expect.

Blackbeard Is One Of One Piece’s Strongest Fighters
Many Fans Underestimate His True Strengths
Looking at Blackbeard specifically, while he does frequently use underhanded tactics, the Emperor of the Sea is one of the craftiest combatants in the entire series. Blackbeard seems to have a plan for every situation and only takes part in fights he is sure he can win. As long as things go according to his predictions, it is very hard for him to lose. This means that when he eventually faces off against the Straw Hat Pirates, Blackbeard is bound to have a fairly strong plan when it comes to fighting them.
A man’s dream will never die! – Blackbeard
Even behind this, physically, Blackbeard is much stronger than fans expect. Although it was with the help of his crew, Blackbeard was able to defeat the Heart Pirates and Law, one of the stronger characters in the series. Additionally, Blackbeard’s Devil Fruits, the Quake-Quake Fruit, and Dark-Dark Fruits are strong compliments of one another, with one giving Blackbeard extreme physical firepower, and the other mitigating the Devil Fruit power of his opponents. Although fans have yet to see him go out, as he currently stands, he is probably at a similar level to Luffy, if not slightly lower.
It May Take Many Allies To Take Blackbeard Down
This Could Be Similar To The War Against Kaido On Wano
- Blackbeard May Take The Straw Hat Grand Fleet To Defeat
- The Devil Fruit Weaknesses May Also Play A Role
However, with the Devil Fruit negating the abilities of the Dark-Dark Fruit, it’s entirely possible that Luffy can’t rely entirely on Gear 5 to help him win his fight with Blackbeard. Instead, much like the fight with Kaido, it may take the combined forces of a massive group of people to allow Luffy to fight Blackbeard head-on. For example, members of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet could help keep Blackbeard occupied if Luffy ever needs a break from the exhaustion that Gear 5 can cause, letting others help Luffy indirectly take Blackbeard down.

The admirals are strong, but they fall short when compared to other strong One Piece characters.
Outside of working together to take down Blackbeard, another way that One Piece’s Straw Hats, namely Luffy could take down the menacing figure may involve using the weaknesses of Devil Fruits. With Blackbeard relying so heavily on his Devil Fruits, utilizing their main drawback would make for a poetic victory for the Straw Hats. From here, many fans have theorized that Blackbeard may actually be the first Devil Fruit user to perish by drowning, possibly inadvertently at the hands of Luffy.
Luffy Will Most Likely Be The One To Defeat Blackbeard
This Would Prove Luffy Is The Real Pirate King
Finally, it’s also just as likely that Luffy will defeat Blackbeard head-on in direct combat. For many, this could be the most satisfying ending, showing Luffy directly overcoming his biggest opponent, and direct foil. In many ways, defeating Blackbeard without the assistance of others will prove that Luffy deserves the title of Pirate King more than anything else. Then again, relying on a crew and close friends may be another quality of a strong Pirate King as well.
This ability chose me, Ace! – Blackbeard
Still, by the time the final war of One Piece happens, Luffy will likely be the one to defeat Blackbeard. Although Blackbeard may not be the final villain of the series, for many, his defeat will be one of the most satisfying moments in the series. In the end, hopefully, this momentous event will live up to the expectations of One Piece fans.
