Who Is the Cameraman on Jeju Island?
The Cameraman’s Name Is Unknown
The Cameraman makes his debut in Solo Leveling season 2, episode 10, “We Need a Hero,” where he introduces himself to the Korean hunters for the first time. His name is never revealed, nor mentioned, keeping his identity a mystery for anime and manhwa fans alike. In the anime, he is referred to as a photographer, but in the manhwa, he is introduced as the Cameraman from the official hunter’s reporting center.
According to the Cameraman, he is the type of guy who specializes in filming hunters. He also reveals that the Jeju Island raid is set to be broadcast live on TV with a 10-minute delay, allowing the editing team to cut awkward and terrible shots of the hunters in action. Naturally, hunters like Ma Dong-Wook and Baek Yoon-Ho are concerned about the safety of the Cameraman. After all, they can’t guarantee his safety, so his life depends on his own hands, not theirs.
“You know, Mr. Cameraman, you need to understand that your life is in your own hands.”—Ma Dong-Wook
Despite this, the Cameraman maintains a courageous and positive mindset, assuring the hunters that they don’t need to worry about him at all. He goes on to say that he has grown accustomed to the dangers of filming and has been through a lot of sticky situations throughout his entire career. Still, he understands that he needs to be extra vigilant since no situation can probably compare to the disaster on Jeju Island.
The Cameraman’s Role on Jeju Island
Breaking Records Is a Must
As soon as the Korean hunters land on Jeju Island, the Cameraman starts streaming footage for the world to see. Instead of focusing on his safety, the Cameraman is more concerned about the quality of his feed, whether it has the proper lighting or not. Given how dark it is inside the hive, the Cameraman wonders whether his footage is even watchable at all. Since there are no orders from the headquarters to adjust his lighting or his position, the Cameraman proceeds to film as planned.
From the initial success of the raid to the late arrival of Sung Jin-Woo, the Cameraman puts his life on the line, taking footage of everything that’s happening in front of him. His dedication pays off, as the stream surpasses 85% viewership—a historic first for the reporting center. Through the Cameraman’s lens, Korea and the rest of the world witness how Korean hunters confront an S-rank dungeon break for the first time—and possibly the last.

How Strong Is the Cameraman on Jeju Island?
The Cameraman Is an A-Rank Hunter
On the surface, the Cameraman looks like a weak hunter, but in reality, he is actually an A-rank hunter, placing him on the same level as the Master of the Knights guild, Park Jong-Soo. Although his specific class is unknown, he seems to be a fighter, or a tank type based on appearance alone. His comment about Byung-Gu being a better fighter than him despite being a healer is likely a subtle hint at his own hunter class. While the Cameraman is an A-rank hunter, he’s convinced that he’s not suited to raiding dungeons, so he opts out of the profession and lives an ordinary life instead. In fact, hunting is just the Cameraman’s side hustle, but that doesn’t make the job any less dangerous.
On Jeju Island, it’s amazing how the Cameraman continues to survive, as if the Ant King doesn’t see him at all. Maybe it had something to do with his weak presence, which somehow turns him invisible in front of such a dangerous opponent. It’s also possible that the Ant King did not come after him because he never attacked the Ant Queen and her children in the first place.
“I may look like this, but I’m an A-rank hunter.”—Cameraman on Jeju Island
However, when the S-rank hunters are pushed into a corner, the Cameraman can only shiver and fall to his knees in the face of death. He doesn’t even attempt to fight back and would rather reflect on the last moments he had with his father. Thankfully, the Cameraman has luck on his side, as one of Sung Jin-Woo’s shadows arrives just in time to prevent his death.
Many died in the Jeju Island arc of Solo Leveling, yet somehow the Cameraman came out of the raid completely unscathed, without any serious injuries at all. Perhaps luck plays a significant role in his survival, along with his seemingly weak aura, which may have helped him avoid the Ant King and the rest of the mutated ants.
