GTA 6’s Marketing Campaign Will Start “Relatively Close” To Its Release Window

Grand Theft Auto 6 Isn't Going To Be The Timely Satire It Needs To Be

Summary

  • It’s been more than a year since the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 was revealed.
  • Despite Take-Two confirming that it was on track for Fall 2025, many have wondered where the second trailer is.
  • Strauss Zelnick has revealed that the choice not to show another trailer is purposeful, and that marketing will begin closer to Fall 2025.

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has explained why we haven’t had a second trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 yet, as he confirmed that marketing will start closer to the release window.

Since the release of GTA 5 all the way back in ye olde 2013, fans have had one big question – when will we be getting GTA 6? That seemed unfair at the time considering how massive Los Santos was, but it’s become more reasonable in the decade since, with Rockstar finally announcing the long-awaited sixth entry towards the end of 2023.

GTA will always be about crime, of course, but what about from another angle?

That trailer was an absolute godsend for Rockstar fans who had spent so long waiting, but little did we all know that the waiting was only just beginning. Not only was a surprisingly late release date of 2025 confirmed in the trailer, but we heard absolutely nothing about GTA 6 in 2024, aside from the fact that it was still aiming to launch this year.

Wondering Where Grand Theft Auto 6’s Trailer 2 Is? Strauss Zelnick Has Finally Explained Why It’s Taking So Long

Not That Knowing Will Make The Wait For Info Any Easier…

Every single month of 2025 so far has seen rumours that we’ll finally see the long-awaited second trailer for GTA 6, only to be met with disappointment. Fans have started wondering why Rockstar and Take-Two are taking so long to show us more of the game, which is something that Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has finally explained in a recent interview.

As pointed out by Twitter user GameRollGTA, Zelnick recently took part in an interview with Bloomberg’s Wall Street Week program, where the inevitable question about GTA 6 came up. Zelnick was asked why the release window has been such a closely guarded secret and where the marketing for the game is.

In response, Zelnick said that the anticipation for GTA 6 may be “the greatest anticipation” he’s ever seen for an entertainment title before, and that Take-Two wants to maintain that. While other “competitors” share their schedules way in advance, Take-Two wants to provide marketing “relatively close” to the release window of their games.

We do have competitors who will describe their release schedule for years in advance, and we found that the better thing to do is provide marketing materials relatively close to the release window to create that excitement on the one hand and balance that excitement with anticipation. – Strauss Zelnick

What that essentially means is that trailers, screenshots, and more for GTA 6 are going to pop up closer to its Fall 2025 release window, as long as a delay doesn’t happen. With the end of the year being so far away, it does make sense that GTA 6 is being guarded close until then, especially since it’s going to make a huge impact no matter when it’s shown.
