WARNING! Spoilers ahead!

7

Baran

The Fall of the King

  • Race: Demon
  • Japanese VA: Shota Yamamoto
  • Last Appearance: Season 2, Episode 8

Baran is the King of Demons, the boss of the Demon Castle dungeon, and the Monarch of White Flames. As if those titles are not impressive enough, he rides a massive Wyvern into the battlefield and wields a great sword that will generate lightning strikes with every swing.

With such a wide range of attacks, it’s not an exaggeration to say that Jin-woo’s fight against Baran is one of the most exciting fights in Solo Leveling. Our hero truly uses everything in his arsenal to defeat the King of Demons. That’s why Baran’s death is one of the most satisfying moments in the story.

6

Goto Ryuji

The Quick Death of Japan’s Top S-Rank

  • Race: Human
  • Japanese VA: Satoshi Mikami
  • Last Appearance: Season 2, Episode 11

Goto Ryuji is not only the leader of the most powerful guild in Japan, but he is also the country’s strongest S-Rank hunter. Underneath that power and influence, however, Goto is actually a despicable man who is willing to sacrifice others for his own gain.

Goto Ryuji’s death is actually quite a bittersweet moment. On one hand, it is pretty satisfying to see such an awful hunter lose his fight in mere seconds. On the other hand, the viewers don’t get the chance to see his true power. Nasty personality aside, Goto Ryuji is the best S-Rank hunter in Japan, which means seeing him unleashing his full power in an intense battle would’ve been pretty exciting to see. In the end, Goto dies just as he lived, unable to prove his worth.

5

Kargalgan

The Death of the Cruel Shaman

  • Race: High Orc
  • Japanese VA: Kenta Miyake
  • Last Appearance: Season 2, Episode 6

Kargalgan is the first mage-class dungeon boss that Jin-woo faces in the series. In fact, he is the first dungeon boss who specializes in long-range attacks. As expected, his fight against Jin-woo, who specializes in close-quarter combat, is incredibly exciting to see.

Great battle aside, another thing that makes Kargalgan’s death so memorable is the fact that he is the first openly cruel dungeon boss that Jin-woo has to face. Kargalgan loves to torture his enemies. Seeing his opponents scream in pain is amusing to him. That’s why it is so satisfying to see him unable to do anything against Jin-woo’s relentless attacks. The fact that it is the shadows of his former generals who deliver the finishing blow is just the cherry on top.

4

Baruka

The Satisfying Downfall of an Arrogant Leader

  • Race: Ice Elf
  • Japanese VA: Ryuuji Satou
  • Last Appearance: Season 2, Episode 2

Baruka is the leader of the Ice Elves who rules over the snow plains within the Red Gate dungeon. As the strongest creature in his domain, Baruka is arrogant and prideful, and he has a huge case of superiority complex.

The most interesting thing about Baruka, however, is the fact that he has a similar fighting style to Jin-Woo. At this point, our hero hasn’t reached his full potential yet, so he is clearly struggling at the beginning of the fight. In fact, this is actually the first time Jin-Woo has had to work together with his shadows to take down an enemy. That is why Baruka’s death is so impactful.

3

Ant King

The Short Life of the Strongest King

  • Race: Insect
  • Japanese VA: Akira Ishida
  • Last Appearance: Season 2, Episode 12

The Ant King is undoubtedly the most powerful monster in this series. He is stronger, faster, tougher, and much more ruthless than the other monsters. As if that’s not terrifying enough, his combat ability is also greater than S-rank hunters. The Ant King is a true embodiment of a natural-born killer.

Unfortunately for this newly born King, Sung Jin-Woo’s power has transcended every living thing on the planet. The Ant King has killed and gravely injured numerous S-rank hunters. But that strength is nothing in the face of Hunter Sung. Watching the proud King slowly realize his imminent demise is one of the most memorable moments in the series.

2

Kim Chul

The Inevitable Death of an Incompetent Leader

  • Race: Human
  • Japanese VA: Chikahiro Kobayashi
  • Last Appearance: Season 2, Episode 2

Kim Chul is a promising A-Rank Hunter from the White Tiger Guild, and one of the major characters in the Red Gate incident. He is also the first major supporting character who dies in season 2. As an A-rank hunter, Kim Chul has decent combat ability, but he is a terrible leader. That’s why nobody is surprised when he eventually loses his life.

The death of Kim Chul itself is not that interesting. What is fascinating is the circumstances that led to his death. Long story short, Sun Jin-Woo baited Kim Chul into attacking him, only to ruthlessly kill the A-rank hunter with Igris’s blade. Jin-Woo decides to do so because he wants to awaken Kim Chul as one of his shadows to help him in his fight against Baruka. This is not the first time Jin-Woo kills another hunter, but this is the first time he purposely kills a human for his own gain.

1

Min Byung-Gyu

The Passing of a Great Man

  • Race: Human
  • Japanese VA: Junya Enoki
  • Last Appearance: Season 2, Episode 11

Min Byung-Gu is the only known S-Rank healer in the series. He participated in the previous Jeju Raid, where he lost his dear friend. That traumatic experience compelled him to retire as a Hunter, but he eventually decides to put on his armor once again in order to help his friends and allies in this raid.

Despite only having a brief time under the spotlight, Min Byung-Gyu showcases how invaluable he is to the team. With his unique abilities, he managed to boost the powers of the other S-rank hunters and heal them at the same time. But just when the viewers begin to feel closer and root for Byung-Gyu, the Ant King takes his life away. In a matter of seconds, one of the kindest and most dependable characters in the story lost his life. That’s why out of every death in season 2, his death is the most memorable one.
