Summary

  • Xbox Elite Series 2 controller has a “frequent return” warning on Amazon.

  • Microsoft is rumored to be working on a new controller that’s inspired by the PS5 DualSense.

Amazon now warns customers that the Xbox Elite Series 2 controller is a frequently returned item. The Xbox Elite Series 2 is one of the most advanced Xbox controllers on the market, with a price tag to match. Retailing for about $180, the Xbox Elite Series 2 lets players customize their gaming experience by letting them adjust the tension in the thumbsticks and triggers, swap the sticks, add back buttons, and more. On paper, the Xbox Elite Series 2 controller should be the ultimate Xbox controller, but unfortunately, it’s had some serious problems since launch.

While there are those that have had no problems with their Xbox Elite Series 2 controller, others have had issues. I’ve owned two Xbox Elite Series 2 controllers and both of them only lasted a few months before they started suffering from various problems. In one instance, stick drift rendered one of my controllers unusable, while in the other, the left bumper stopped working. Considering how expensive these controllers are, problems like this are especially frustrating.

It seems that enough people have returned their Xbox Elite Series 2 controllers for Amazon to issue a warning on the device’s store page. As spotted by Windows Central, the Xbox Elite Series 2 controller now has a warning that it is a “frequently returned item.” This may make some consumers think twice before taking the plunge on the expensive controller, as it indicates general dissatisfaction with the device’s quality. That being said, the controller still has a 4.2 rating on Amazon, so it seems there are those that have purchased the controllers and haven’t experienced any issues.

Xbox Elite Series 2 Controller is ‘Frequently Returned’ by Amazon Shoppers

Those in the market for a new Xbox controller may want to go the safer route and purchase a standard Xbox controller. While I have experienced stick drift and various other issues with those over the years as well, they are significantly cheaper, with most costing $60 – $70. Problems don’t seem to be nearly as frequent with them, and so they’re the safer purchase overall.

As far as new Xbox controllers go, rumor has it that Microsoft has something in the wings that takes inspiration from the PS5’s DualSense controller and its unique features. A new Xbox console is expected to launch in 2027 or thereabouts, and so one has to imagine that it will have a new controller to accompany it. And maybe Xbox will take another crack at the Elite Series and deliver something that is more consistently reliable and can go without the Amazon warning.
