After Oblivion, TES 6 Has The Perfect Blueprint to Add a Unique Area Type

There are rumors going around that Bethesda is planning to release an Oblivion remake soon, possibly before The Elder Scrolls 6’s launch. Of course, while some fans may prefer to get TES 6 ASAP, an improved version of a classic Elder Scrolls title would also be exciting. Oblivion is considered one of the franchise’s best installments and an all-time great role-playing game, mostly because of its epic story and bustling open world. There’s a lot that TES 6 can learn from this specific predecessor, like including a specific type of setting to its presumably vast and diverse map.

Rumors of an Oblivion remake have been swirling around since 2023, with a presumed target release date set in 2024 or 2025. While it’s not as exciting as a sequel, this improved reissue of the game could tide players over until The Elder Scrolls 6. After all, the next installment doesn’t have a set release date just yet. Oblivion, like Skyrim, has quite a big world and is known for a vast amount of replay value. As such, players could be bound to have months or even years’ worth of fun from playing the remake, especially if it comes with new content and remakes of the legacy DLCs as well.

Why TES 6 has to Have its Own Version of Oblivion’s Veyond Cave

Oblivion is filled with fascinating destinations like the Veyond Cave, found in the wilderness north of the city of Bravil. While it may look like any other cave in any TES game, players may notice that its occupants are far from common.

The Veyond Cave Contains Enemies One Can’t Find Anywhere Else

Players who enter the Veyond Cave will be greeted by Mud Crabs and Argonian Tribesmen, and players will encounter the latter in three other zones of the cave. They also have different classifications, similar to the character classes in Oblivion, which include:

  • Assassin
  • Blademaster
  • Monk
  • Nightblade

Players will also encounter Argonian Shamans and the Argonian Chieftain when they reach the farther ends of the cave. These are tougher to deal with than the regular tribesmen, as some have access to spells and wield more powerful blunt weapons. This network of caves is inundated by water and contains some minor loot. The final zone, known as the “Great Sump,” is entirely submerged underwater, and players will need to have a Water Breathing spell or equipment ready if they want to explore it further. What’s interesting is that players can only encounter these opponents in the Veyond Cave and nowhere else in the game.

How TES 6 Can Have its Own Improved Version of Oblivion’s Veyond Cave

The Veyond Cave is quite novel in the way it features unique enemies, but some players may feel confused about their purpose. The occupants, especially the Tribesmen, seemed to have more traditional garb than those in the metropolitan TES cities of Cyrodiil. The dungeon is not linked to any quest, and it doesn’t contain any scroll or book that could tell the player more about the cave dwellers and their way of life.

Skyrim further improved on telling stories about its different dungeons, like Movarth’s Lair, which is a major location for the Skyrim‘s Laid to Rest questline. The story involves the Dragonborn investigating a house fire in Morthal and uncovering the sad truth behind a child’s death and a dastardly plot by vampires to enslave the town.

While the cave does feature a unique NPC in the form of Movarth, it still contains generic vampire opponents that one can find in different lairs. Perhaps The Elder Scrolls 6 could combine the Veyond Cave’s eccentric inhabitants with Skyrim’s storytelling to create even more interesting areas and dungeons.
