We are only a few short days from Nintendo’s Switch 2-focused Direct, which is set to air on the second of April. However, according to semi-reliable leaker extas1s, the Switch 2’s C-button will have a surprising function.
Extas1s suggests you’ll be able to use the enigmatic C-button to connect a Nintendo Switch to the Nintendo Switch 2, enabling you to use the old console as a gamepad for the new one. It’s a quirky innovation but, if true, would be an astute way to re-purpose old technology that many Switch users already have lying around.
This connection feature could be useful for a variety of reasons. You could use it for split-screen games, or for potential ports of Nintendo DS and/or Wii U games which require two screens. There’s every chance the leak isn’t true, but that would be an oddly specific untruth.
The Mysterious C-Button
The C-button has been the subject of intense speculation ever since early leaks of the Nintendo Switch 2’s controller featured the mysterious button. Official images then confusingly blanked out the button, only for official promotional material to then feature it. The C could potentially stand for ‘Connection’ or could just be a naming convention. The Game Cube had a C-stick after all.
However, Nintendo’s non-announcement of this feature could potentially cause backlash given the number of people that have sold their Nintendo Switches in the interim since the initial Switch 2 announcement. It seems strange that Nintendo wouldn’t clarify that there would be a future use for the original Switch, but Nintendo is rarely a predictable company.
The recent Nintendo Direct was focused on games that would release for both the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2. Two of the major announcements were Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. The glut of announcements is expected to fall on April 2, when Nintendo airs its Switch 2 Direct.
We already know a couple of Switch 2 launch titles, like Pokémon Legends: Z-A but fans are expecting the announcement of several more, such as a new Mario platformer.
