Summary
- Tomodachi Life fans believe that Living the Dream’s announcement trailer included a subtle tease for the inclusion of gay romances.
- A woman dreaming of their friend/neighbor is the scene that sparked speculation, with some believing the two are attracted to each other.
- Nintendo faced backlash for omitting same-sex relationships in the first Tomodachi Life, so it would be surprising to see them left out again in the sequel.
Nintendo’s latest Direct was much quieter than usual, featuring smaller titles and closer looks at games that have already been announced, but the company did have one ace up its sleeve. Right at the end of the show, Nintendo announced Tomodachi Life: Leaving the Dream, a sequel to the first Tomodachi Life that released on the 3DS all the way back in 2013.
It was a bizarre trailer, featuring plenty of Miis with creepy robotic voices, but there was one scene which had many believing that Nintendo may be adding a massive fan request to Living the Dream. The scene in question shows a Mii encountering a giant lady in a dream, before waking up on a park beach with the same lady walking behind and looking in her direction.
Tomodachi Life Fans Think Nintendo Is Teasing Gay Romance In Living The Dream
Since we know that the woman on the bench is dreaming of a woman she probably knows, many have taken this as a subtle hint that Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream may include gay romance and marriage this time around. Why else would you be dreaming of a giant lady that you personally know if you don’t have any romantic feelings towards them?
Two Twitter posts in particular have blown up by pointing out the potential for gay romance, the first from a user called Lizbedumb, who rather excitedly demanded to know whether the two ladies in question are gay. Another user called Seafoodchip thought it was funny that the trailer was “teasing gay romance options like it’s a smash character”.
Of course, nothing has been confirmed just yet, as this could just be a woman dreaming about her friend or neighbor, or the tease of some kind of dream storyline or mechanic. However, it would be astounding if Nintendo didn’t allow gay romances this time around, especially after it landed itself in hot water for omitting them from the first game.
In fact, Nintendo actually issued an apology back in 2014 for not allowing same-sex relationships and marriages in the first game, and actually pledged to “design a game-play experience from the ground up that is more inclusive, and better represents all players” if it were to make a new Tomodachi Life. Same-sex relationships are part of life now, and it would be bizarre (and fairly homophobic) to leave them out of life sim in today’s world.
