The Walking Dead Fans Want One of Its Creepiest Scenes Given a Better Storyline

Summary

  • Early storylines captivated viewers by delving into character dynamics and survival challenges.
  • Some narratives like Clara’s in Season 4 fell short, leaving fans wanting more development.
  • Clara’s storyline, though intriguing, served as a symbolic moment for Rick’s character growth.

AMC’s The Walking Dead had some of TV’s most compelling and thought-provoking storylines throughout its 12 years on the small screen. From its first outing in 2010, which saw Rick kill a zombie child, to its latter seasons with Negan and his controversial actions, the post-apocalyptic series captivated most of its audience with its zombie-driven narrative and fleshed-out character dynamics. While the show, which was developed by Frank Darabont from Robert Kirkman’s comic series, has amassed millions of fans, not all of its stories have been well received.

Some fans might agree that some of the best storylines in the series came early on in each show when The Walking Dead initially dove into developing its complex characters and the lengths the group was willing to go to survive in the post-apocalyptic world. Of course, as with any long-running show, not every storyline can hit with viewers not understanding the point of narratives like Beth Green getting captured and then dying anyway, the underdevelopment of the Wolves plotline, and how lackluster Isabelle and Daryl’s relationship was. One particular storyline in Season 4 has confused some fans of the show even more, which seemed to set up an intriguing and “creepy” scene for the producers to not really go anywhere with it in the end.

The Walking Dead Fans Expected More From Clara’s Narrative

Clara The Walking Dead Season 4

Over on Reddit, fans of The Walking Dead have been discussing their disappointment at the introduction of Clara to Season 4 of the series. In the episode ’30 Days Without an Accident’, Rick meets Clara as he’s out hunting, where she tells him that she and her husband have a camp nearby, and they are both starving. Not only did Clara’s appearance look like she’d been in the wilderness too long, but her resemblance to a walker certainly shocked viewers too. After taking Rick back to her camp, he finally saw that she wasn’t mentally stable and had kept her husband’s head after he had turned in a bag, seemingly feeding him on whatever she could come across, with Rick possibly next. The scene seemed to set up something far more sinister than what was finally shown, with one fan criticizing the plotline as being underdeveloped and underwhelming.

“I was expecting way more from this character. It just felt very anticlimactic, considering how strange and creepy it was,” said the poster on Reddit, while other fans echoed their interest and seemed to want to know more about this intriguing character regarding her backstory, what happened to her husband, and if she came from another settlement, what happened to them? Even though The Walking Dead could and probably should have fleshed out her story more since she was such a captivating character, she did, however, serve a symbolic purpose for Rick.

Rick tells Clara that she can come back from the things she’s done after she questions her previous actions, but before she decides to take her own life, Clara says, “You don’t… you don’t get to come back. You don’t get to come back from things. You don’t…”. The speech that Rick said to the Governor, as he was about to behead Hershel, foreshadows the same speech he delivered to Clara in the season premiere. “Everyone’s made it this far. We’ve all done the worst kinds of things just to stay alive, but we can still come back. We’re not too far gone.”

However, Clara’s presence in the show doesn’t exactly end after she dies by suicide in the forest, as she can be seen as a walker roaming around the field near the abandoned prison in the mid-season finale of The Walking Dead season 4, which was another great Easter egg to include. Some fans may have missed Clara’s reappearance due to her similarity to a zombie already, but for those who have wondered why she looks so familiar, actor Kerry Condon later played Stacey Ehrmantraut in Better Call Saul as well as her amazing performance as Siobhán Súilleabháinin in The Banshees of Inisherin.
