Out of all the major characters in Atomfall, Mother Jago is one of the most enigmatic. An herbalist and healer by trade, Mother Jago is the only character who can help you fight back against infection with her Strange Tonic, but it’s hard to deny that there’s something off about how she interacts with the player and Druids of Casterfell Woods.

Joyce Tanner is a shady character in Atomfall who promises to get you out of the quarantine zone. But can you trust her?

Like all major NPCs in the game, Mother Jago is someone you can choose to trust, work against, or completely ignore. This guide explains whether you should trust Mother Jago in Atomfall, what happens when you start to take on her requests, and ultimately, whether her unique ending is worth the effort it takes to complete. If you’re a big fan of nature, paganist spirituality, and mushrooms, you might just find this character to be the most “friendly” of the bunch.

Where To Find Mother Jago In Atomfall

Atomfall Trust Mother Jago Guide Escape From Suffering Old Mine

To find Mother Jago, you must head all the way to the north of Casterfell Woods, which can be accessed via a gate at the northwest side of Wyndham Village. Follow the path forward until you reach the big central path of Casterfell Woods. At the very top of the path, turn east and walk across the hills to find the Old Mine at coordinates 27.2E, 92.2N.

If you have not completed certain Leads, the first Mother Jago location will always be here. Later on, she will move elsewhere in Casterfell Woods, depending on whether you choose to trust Mother Jago or not.

Should You Trust Mother Jago In Atomfall?

Mother Jago is a bit of an enigmatic figure in Atomfall. On one hand, she offers the only consumable that can fight back against the Infection spores that plague the Quarantine Zone. On the other hand, her motives are mysterious, shrouded in fog, until you complete a few tasks for her.

Atomfall: Should You Trust Dr. Holder

There’s a strange scientist named Dr. Holder hiding under a church. He says he can help you escape, but can he be trusted?

As it turns out, she is essentially a spiritual leader for the Druids of the woods. If you find Mother Jago’s Book in the Druid Castle (in the far southwest of the zone) and return it to her, she will offer you an “escape” of sorts. Very quickly you will realize that this is not necessarily an escape from the zone that she offers, but rather, an escape from suffering by giving yourself entirely to The Voice In The Soil.

Mother Jago is not an inherently evil character, unlike, say, Captain Sims, whose undemocratic actions and selfish motivations make him a much more untrustworthy character. But if you choose to trust Mother Jago, you will fall down a path that will intertwine you with The Voice In The Soil just as much as the cultish Druids.

If you’re a fan of traditional pagan spirituality and “the greater good” of the Druids that wish for the death of heathenistic technology, or you’re a big fan of The Wickerman, Mother Jago’s ending is one of the most interesting to follow. But if you don’t want to fall into a cult – or sacrifice yourself to whatever the Voice In The Soil actually is – don’t trust Mother Jago.
