- Fans can wishlist the Game of the Year Edition at Limited Run Games, which will include all updates and DLC.
In a move few could have seen coming, High on Life is getting a Switch release, as revealed by the recent Direct. The Rick and Morty-esque shooter is a somewhat contentious one, with some players finding its unique gameplay and adult humor fun and charming and others finding it more annoying than anything else. Now a new audience will get the chance to see what they think of High on Life as the game comes to Nintendo Switch.
Rumors abounded when Nintendo announced a surprise Direct for March 27, especially because the company had already announced a presentation for the upcoming Switch 2 coming on April 2. While Nintendo made it clear that the Direct would only go over games for the original Switch, what that might entail was a bit of a mystery. Now the Direct has come and gone, and one of its more surprising details was the announcement that 2022’s High on Life is coming to the platform.

2025 is shaping up to be one of the biggest years in video game history –here’s everything we know so far about gaming release dates next year.
A brief trailer during the March 27 Direct confirmed that High on Life will arrive on Switch on May 6, 2025. While it’s far from the first Rated M game to find its way onto a Nintendo console, Nintendo has developed a more family-friendly reputation over the years. Regardless of how odd it may seem for the Switch, it’s still exciting news for any fans of the game, not only because it’s available on a new platform, but also because it’s getting a new special edition.
High on Life Is Coming to Nintendo Switch on May 6
After the Direct, Squanch Games revealed that High on Life will get a special Game of the Year Edition on the Switch. In addition to a physical copy of the game, this version includes all of the title’s updates and DLC. The Game of the Year Edition doesn’t have an official price or release day yet, but fans can wishlist it at Limited Run Games. Earlier this year, High on Life became the fourth most popular PS Plus free game since 2023, so if that’s any indication of its popularity, fans may want to jump on the chance to snag the special release while they can.
The trailer’s visuals make it seem like High on Life doesn’t achieve quite the same performance on Switch as Xbox and PlayStation, but that’s not unusual, given the system’s lower specs. Nintendo has also confirmed that the Switch 2 will be backward compatible with some original Switch titles, so there’s a chance that fans could take advantage of that console’s increased power to get the game to run better. Anyone hoping for that possibility will have to wait to learn more from Nintendo and Squanch Games.
