Nintendo Just Revealed Zelda's Release Date In The Most Nintendo Way Possible

The Legend of Zelda’s live-action movie will officially release in cinemas on March 26, 2027, Nintendo has confirmed today. This is stated as the “worldwide” release date, meaning it should release globally at the same time, unlike The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which had a more gradual rollout. Little detail is available on the movie at the moment, but this reveal that it is two years way means casting and production should begin soon.

The Zelda movie might have just found its perfect Tingle.

The movie’s date was annnouned on the recently released Nintendo Today app, which was unveiled as part of yesterday’s Nintendo Direct. It seems the app will be a must have for fans looking to stay informed in the future.

We still don’t know who is playing either Link or Zelda in the movie. Since it’s a live-action adaptation, we can expect whoever is cast to bear some likeness to the characters, unlike Mario where the casting was based on voice. Fans have debated a few differnet names for both major roles, with Tom Holland, Timothee Chalamet, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Glen Powell all mentioned by fans, though Powell and Chalamet feel unlikely, and Holland is so known for Spider-Man, not to mention also playing Nathan Drake, that he might not fit either.

There is a similar laundry list of names fans have suggested for Zelda. Florence Pugh, Saoirse Ronan, Anya Taylor-Joy, Thomasin McKenzie, Hunter Schafer, Rachel Zegler, and Kaitlyn Dever were amongst the top names when the film was first announced, but Taylor-Joy’s role as Peach probably rules her out, while Ronan does not tend to do these sorts of movies. Dever has also since been cast as Abby Anderson in The Last of Us, a very different sort of video game character, and thus might rule herself out.
