Nintendo Switch 2 Direct Start Time (How to Watch April Nintendo Direct)
We will soon be learning everything we need to know about the Nintendo Switch 2, but what time does the presentation start?
The Switch 2 U.S. pre-orders will open exactly one week following the April 2 event, Insider Gaming‘s Tom Henderson reports, citing internal emails and documentation from a major, unspecified retailer. This unnamed company expects to sell out all Switch 2 inventory on the same day—April 9. That’s in spite of the fact that Nintendo has reportedly already managed to import a large quantity of Switch 2 units into the U.S., and that even more may cross the border in the days ahead.
Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Order Start Date May Vary By Country
Best Buy Canada recently announced it will start accepting Switch 2 pre-orders on April 2. If Henderson’s information is accurate, then the console’s pre-order start date will vary by country. Best Buy Canada’s announcement did not include any pricing details, which are expected to be shared during the upcoming Nintendo Direct. The April 2 event is also likely to yield new information about the console’s launch game lineup, as well as its features, including the mysterious button located on the right Joy-Con, right below the Home button.
Nintendo Switch 2 Reportedly Has a June 2025 Release Date
Henderson also reports that the Switch 2 has a June 2025 release date, citing the same retailer source. A June launch has already been rumored for a while now, with multiple analysts predicting it. Many attendees of the recently concluded GDC were also reportedly convinced that the Switch 2 will hit the store shelves in June. While the upcoming release will be international, not every market may receive the console on the exact same day. For reference, the 2017 Switch was late to several countries, including China and Brazil, which it only reached in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
Switch 2 Could Be Nintendo’s Most Expensive Console Yet
Analysts expect the Switch 2 to be considerably pricier than its predecessor, which launched at $299 and bucked the trend of Nintendo consoles receiving price cuts midway through their lifecycle. According to some predictions, the new device could plausibly retail for between $399 and $499, which would make it Nintendo’s most expensive console to date. However, the lower end of that range would still be cheaper than the SNES when adjusted for inflation, as the 1990 console launched at $199, which is equivalent to approximately $459 in 2024 dollars.
