The episode starts with Harry Bosch attending the military funeral of a former comrade called Josh Brady. Maddie turns up at the funeral, and meets a man called Ken Gurbizs, who served in Afghanistan with Bosch, and they all attend the wake. Gurbizs tells Maddie one particular story about a gnarly encounter that borders on war crimes, which has her questioning her father’s moral compass.

Elsewhere, Bosch is visited at his office by a woman called Siobhan Murphy, who has come over from Ireland to seek help to find out what happened to her daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren, who have mysteriously vanished without a trace. Robertson and Lopez interview Kurt Dockweiler’s lawyer, James Rafferty (Bruce Davison), who tells them Bosch gained access to the interview room and threatened to kill his client. Maddie discusses Bosch’s alleged war crimes with Honey Chandler, and the District Attorney hopeful reminds her that things aren’t always straightforward, and she should go a bit easier on her father.

Robertson and Lopez pay a visit to Sgt. John “Mank” Mankiewicz, and interrogate him about the Kurt Dockweiler interview room incident, but he pleads ignorance. However, the detective duo are able to obtain the video of Bosch attacking Dockweiler, which ends with Jerry Edgar stepping in. Elsewhere, Bosch is hard at work on the missing family case when Chandler calls to enlist his help looking into why the LAPD didn’t take the threat from Sheehan seriously. He agrees to look into it after he follows up a lead on his main case. He finds out the missing person’s case isn’t being considered suspicious, but he finds information about the son-in-law’s construction business being in trouble, and possible embezzlement crimes. Robertson and Lopez break into Bosch’s office and find a thank-you note from the Dignan family relating to a parole recommendation Bosch wrote for Curtis Dignan, who was serving time with Preston Borders in Wasco State Prison.

You can’t come at Bosch, like you would anyone else. You gotta investigate him the way he investigates.

What Did Harry Bosch Discover At The Missing Family’s Cabin?

Bosch and Siobhan visit the house where the family went missing, while Mo ‘Maurice’ Bassi ‘knocks on doors’ and finds a video recording of the family leaving the house. Meanwhile, Mank meets with Bosch and gives him the lowdown on the lack of extra security from the Hollywood Division at the charity event, and he reveals information about a scam involving Lt Thorne.

Robertson and Lopez pay a visit to Rita Tedesco, who is just about to take a call from her husband, Preston Borders, and threaten her with losing her probation deal if she doesn’t co-operate about what she knows about the hit on Kurt Dockweiler and his links to Borders and Dignan. Next stop is a visit to Maddie, where the detectives quiz her on why she didn’t report the phone call from Borders. The episode ends with Bosch and Siobhan visiting the cabin where the missing family also spent time. Sheriff Beto Orestes accompanies the pair inside the residence, and Bosch makes a huge discovery: one of the girls’ comfort blankies, which heavily suggests the disappearance was not voluntary.
