Bosch: Legacy‘s final season is here at last, with the first four episodes dropping all at once on Prime Video this week. It’s a bittersweet feeling for Harry Bosch fans who weren’t happy with Amazon canceling the show over six months ago. The Save Bosch: Legacy movement has raised a lot of concerns about Amazon’s conduct in relation to the cancelation and a big new claim about cast and crew contracts on the show has now been made that could blow everything up.
Troy Evans sat down for an in-depth interview with Game Rant last week, and he was very candid about how Amazon treated the cast and crew on Bosch and Bosch: Legacy. Evans’ controversial F-Bomb outburst aimed at Amazon caught people’s attention several weeks ago, but this was not a random unjustified attack on the streamer. Amazon’s lack of promotion for Bosch: Legacy initially caught the eye of fan favorite, Troy Evans, who has played Detective Barrel Johnson since the original series began in 2014. His two-word expletive response resonated with the fans, who had become frustrated with Amazon when they canceled Bosch: Legacy back in September 2014, without giving any logical explanation. The cancelation of Bosch: Legacy is the strangest in television history, and Amazon are doing certain things that could have ramifications for the Hollywood industry for decades to come. Amazon launched Freevee with the intention of introducing advertisements to the platform, and it looks like they used the popularity of the Bosch-verse to get it off the ground. For fans not privy to the behind-the-scenes activity, the transition from Bosch to Bosch: Legacy didn’t appear sinister in any way, but Troy Evans has a very different take on it:
They got rid of a lot of people on the crew because, over time, they made a little more money, working on the series for six or seven years. It was a wonderful set, and it worked like clockwork. Everything was so clean. As long as they stay with Bosch, those people have certain protections from the unions. There’s no reason at all that Harry Bosch couldn’t retire, and it would still be Bosch, except now he’s a private detective, right? By making it Legacy, Amazon swept all those people out. Loyal for seven years, then Amazon kicked them to the curb to save a few bucks.

Bosch: Legacy Could Have Carried On As The Original Series, But It Looks Like Amazon Were Trying To Save Money
A spin-off usually shifts focus onto a supporting character from the parent show. However, in Bosch: Legacy‘s case, it’s still very much focused on Harry Bosch, albeit with the promotion of Maddie Bosch and Honey Chandler to co-lead status. Troy Evans is right, Legacy could have been the original Bosch series with the iconic ex-detective no longer in the LAPD. However, it looks like Amazon decided they could have a clear out of the loyal cast and crew who helped make the show what it was in order to save money. It’s actually quite a scandalous thing to do, but this Amazon and nothing is surprising. So, here’s the question: what shenanigans did Amazon get up to when they plotted the cancelation of Bosch: Legacy to usher in the Ballard spin-off? Evans said:
People on Bosch: Legacy had no idea it was going to be canceled. They thought there was going to be more Legacy and the Connelly world was expanding.
If Amazon misled the cast and crew about the future of Bosch: Legacy, and ‘swept them all out’ like they did with the original Bosch crew, in the middle of a crisis in Hollywood brought on by the strikes, that is rather scandalous. Bosch: Legacy‘s cancelation came at a time when industry workers needed their unions more than ever, so if Amazon fired them all to reset the pay structure to coincide with the Ballard spin-off, it would be a huge revelation. Where have all those loyal cast and crew gone from the Bosch: Legacy days? Kicked to the curb and replaced by new workers who get paid cheaper rates? There’s a very sinister pattern forming here about how Amazon conducts their business. Instead of expanding Michael Connelly’s Bosch-verse with the continuation of Bosch: Legacy alongside the introduction of the Ballard spin-off, Amazon is using each show in the Bosch-verse as part of a succession plan that involves axing cast and crew to cut costs. If Ballard runs for a few seasons, and becomes too expensive to produce, Amazon will cancel it in a similar way to Bosch: Legacy, and either finish the Bosch-verse altogether, or revive the axed Jerry Edgar spin-off, and the beat goes on. Cancel, cover-up, PR Spin, repeat.
