Leaker Narrows Down Call of Duty 2025 Release Window

Leaker Narrows Down Call of Duty 2025 Release Window

Summary

  • The 2025 Call of Duty game may release in early October.
  • Black Ops 6 might only receive five seasons, one fewer than every other non-Vanguard Call of Duty game since 2019.
  • Call of Duty 2025 is expected to be officially announced sometime this summer.

The 2025 Call of Duty game may launch in early October, a Spanish leaker has said. The claim suggests that the next entry in Activision’s first-person shooter series will materialize even before Black Ops 6 turns one.

Rumors about this year’s installment in the long-running franchise have been circulating online for a while now. Most recently, a mid-March report from Insider Gaming claimed that Treyarch is leading the development on the 2025 Call of Duty title, in addition to suggesting that the game’s Zombies mode will have six round-based maps, including levels set in New York, Japan, and even a Dark Aether space station.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Adding Jay and Silent Bob

Treyarch confirms that the iconic Jay and Silent Bob duo are joining Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 as brand-new operators in Season 3.

Another supposed tidbit about the upcoming title has now been shared by Spanish leaker InfoCoDES, who—in a March 28 tweet—reported that the game may hit the market in early October 2025. Black Ops 6 was released on October 25, 2024, meaning it wouldn’t even be a year old by the time its follow-up materializes if this rumor comes to fruition. Such a development would be fairly typical for Activision’s series; Black Ops 6, Modern Warfare 2, Vanguard, Black Ops 4, COD: WWII, and Infinite Warfare have all hit the store shelves less than a year after their predecessors did—and that’s just the games from the last ten years. So, whether a new entry drops before or after the one before it celebrates its first anniversary is historically a coin flip, and the 2025 coin will supposedly land on “before.”

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 May Be Supported Shorter Than Expected

Except for Vanguard, all Call of Duty games since 2019 have received six seasons’ worth of content. InfoCoDES now reports that Black Ops 6 might buck this trend, saying he heard that the 2024 game will only get five seasons. “But don’t take this too seriously,” the source added, noting that all leaks should be taken with a grain of salt, his included. Black Ops 6 is currently in Season 2 Reloaded, with Season 3 being scheduled to drop on April 2.

Call of Duty 2025 Poised to Continue 20-Year Trend

All entries in the series starting from the 2003 Call of Duty game were released in either October or November, with the latter being more common by a ratio of 2.5 to 1. The 2025 installment was expected to continue this trend even before any leaks narrowing down its potential launch window emerged.

If the 2025 game does debut in October, it will mark the first time in six years that two consecutive Call of Duty entries have launched in that month. Based on historical precedent, Activision is likely to officially announce the upcoming first-person shooter in summer 2025.
