Each is unlocked through different methods, whether they’re with you from the beginning, obtained through story progression, or through completing one of many affinity missions.

Wondering about Segment Recon and world exploration in Xenoblade Chronicles X?

Of those unlockable party members, one of the most interesting options is Celica, a young Qlurian girl who is often accompanied by her large Gaur friend, Rock. Her charming presence is only rivaled by her combat prowess, as she wields her knife and dual guns to great effect. This guide will detail how to complete both affinity quests to unlock Celica as a party member.

Affinity Mission #1 – Manhunt

Unlike most other unlockable party members, Celica is locked behind two separate affinity missions. The first of those, titled Manhunt, can be accepted once you have completed Chapter 8 of the main story, and have reached at least level 33.

The mission begins with Commander Vandham tasking you, Elma, and Lin to investigate a lead he detected regarding Ryyz and Dagahn, two members of the Ganglion army who spearheaded the assault on New Los Angeles in the previous story chapter. He says that a small girl and a large creature were spotted around Noctilum’s Qing Long Glade area.

Upon arriving in Noctilum, the party sees a recently extinguished campfire, before a group of Marnuck soldiers working for the Ganglion approach, seemingly searching for the same duo you are.

You are given a choice of whether you would like to fight them or not, but this choice does not impact the rest of the quest, so pick a fight if you wish or avoid it if you don’t.

From there, the party learns that more Marnuck soldiers are stationed near Shark’s Jaws, implying that’s where the targets are. Once you arrive at the Shark’s Jaws cave, you’ll spot your duo: not Ryyz and Dagahn like was expected, but instead a young Qlurian girl and a large creature by her side.

After introducing themselves as Celica and Rock respectively, Elma offers to grant the pair asylum in New Los Angeles, though Celica doesn’t trust that offer. Before an agreement can be made, more Marnuck soldiers enter the cave, starting another fight.

Unlike the previous fight, this one is not optional, so be ready for a brawl.

Once the Marnuck are defeated, Rock manages to convince Celica to go to New Los Angeles, since it will be safer than constantly being on the run from the Ganglion. The pair then move to the Integrated Production Plant in the Industrial District, where you witness the two acclimating to their new home.

While Celica and Rock now have a home, if you want them to truly become your allies, you have one more affinity mission to complete.

Affinity Mission #2 – New In New LA

For the second Celica-centered affinity mission, titled New in New LA, you must have completed the previous affinity quest, Manhunt, and have completed Chapter 9 of the main story, titled Warriors of Wroth. You must also be at least level 44 to accept the quest as well.

Picking up right where Manhunt left off, Celica and Rock are struggling to adjust to life within New Los Angeles, as Director General Chausson continues to press for Rock to join B.L.A.D.E. as a fighter due to his large size, despite him being a pacifist by nature.

To help earn her and Rock’s place in the city, Celica runs off and decides to join B.L.A.D.E. herself on a whim.

With her initial disappearance, you are tasked with finding information regarding her whereabouts. After finding the first piece of information, talk to Vandham to learn why Celica went to join B.L.A.D.E. before looking for the second.

The first piece of information is located at the end of Armory Alley, right beside the AM Manager console, while the second piece is located near the B.L.A.D.E. scouting console.

Once you’ve gathered both pieces of information, Rock will appear sitting in front of the B.L.A.D.E. barracks, saying that Celica went to Sylvalum alone to gather Selenean Sage, and that he wants to go help her to make sure she doesn’t get hurt.

You, Lin, and Elma decide to tag along, so Rock doesn’t have to fight.

At this point in the quest, Celica can be found in the Behemoth’s Shadows cave in Sylvalum, which is only accessible if you have the Skell Flight Module unlocked. If you don’t have that, accept the mission Flight Module from the B.L.A.D.E. concourse once you’ve completed Chapter 9.

Once you’ve made it to the Behemoth’s Shadows area, follow the path to view a few short cutscenes with Rock explaining his affection for Celica, before heading to the very back of the cave to find Celica herself.

While it may appear that you need to go on foot to reach Celica, you can actually take a different path with your Skell in order to have it for the upcoming fight.

Celica did manage to collect the Selenean Sage on her own, but is now being pursued by a ferocious monster. Thankfully, you and Rock arrive just in time to save her from certain doom, leading to a fight against a Dimnet Xiphas. You can use Skells in this fight, thankfully, so it’s not very hard.

Once you’ve defeated the monster, speak to Celica and Rock at the entrance to the Behemoth’s Shadows cave. After that, you can return to New Los Angeles to speak to Commander Vandham, who congratulates Celica on a job well done, marking her start as an official member of B.L.A.D.E. Rock also obtains a job from Chausson to help with the construction of New Los Angeles, marking the end of this quest.

Once the quest is done, you will officially unlock Celica as a playable party member. She uses a variation of the Psycorruptor class, wielding a knife and dual guns, making her a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield.
