Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition focuses on the adventures of those few remaining of humanity as they attempt to rebuild on the planet of Mira. And with settling on an alien planet, you can of course expect there to be quite a few aliens, too. The game doesn’t shy away from the prejudice that arises from this, and shows how positive interaction can be of mutual benefit.

Of course, humanity is not a monolith, and there will be some bad eggs in there. And Bozé happens to be one of the most rotten eggs in the batch. Obsessed with the eastern cultures of Earth and somehow filled with prejudice towards those that don’t look likem him, the Mad Monk mission will have you directly facing his issues.
How To Start The Mad Monk Mission
The Mad Monk mission is unlocked a little later in the game, not becoming available until you have completed Chapter Five, Ma-non Maneuvers. This is because the Ma-non are an essential part of this quest. Beyond that, you must simply pick up the Backup Request Basic Mission from Mission Control in the Administrative District.
The quest doesn’t have a strict level requirement, but it does recommend you be at least level 20 before taking it on due to its relative difficulty.
Once you’ve picked up the Basic Mission, head over to East Gate to pick up the full mission, The Mad Monk. This is an Affinity Mission, so it must be completed entirely before you can start another Affinity or Story Mission.
Saving Or Abandoning Jejebba
Bozé, after a rather eccentric introduction, will ask that you accompany him to the Vitriol Pools in Noctilum to help save his apprentice that went missing. Once you reach this area though, you encounter a hurt Ma-non in the cave. Bozé is, without any other means of describing it, incredibly resentful that this Ma-non even exists, hating him by simple merit of the fact that they are an alien.
He insists on leaving this Ma-non here and continuing onwards. You are then presented with a choice – to either follow Bozé further on, or to demand you all help the injured Ma-non.
Abandoning
Fearing more for the life of a human than a Ma-non, you abandon them to their fate as you press further into the cave.
Saving
If you choose to rebuke Bozé’s racist ideology, you instead help nurse this Ma-non back to help. This requires gathering up five Muneria Flowers, which are commonly found across Noctilum and will be marked on the map. If you already have them, you can give them to Jejebba immediately.
They will thank you profusely, and use their little healing device to help themselves the rest of the way, even promising a reward once they’re all better. Bozé returns only cruel remarks. You can now continue your journey further into the cave.
Defending Reggie
After passing through the poison pools, you will finally meet Reggie, trapped at the back of the cave as indigens close in on him. After a brief chat, you must defend him against waves of enemies. The goal here is not to defeat all the enemies within the time limit, but instead to survive until the time runs out.
You will face two waves of enemies, Blattas for the first wave, and Forfexes for the second wave. Both last for two minutes. Provided you’re at the level of the quest or above, this shouldn’t prove to be much of a challenge. You briefly exit combat between waves, giving you time to regain some health and refill your Quick Cooldown bar.
After both waves of enemies are repelled, Bozé has a brief pep talk with his apprentice, and Jejebba will also appear to offer a reward if you assisted them. All you have to do now is return to Eleonora to complete the quest. Do so for a reward of 13,000 credits and 220 EXP. Though Bozé also offers the chance for you to turn down him joining your party, you are unfortunately not actually allowed to.
The quest completion dialogue implies you can immediately begin Bozé’s next Affinity Mission, though you must wait untilyou have completed Chapter Seven first.
